I see value in both systems.. A president but that has poltical down sides.. The ceromonial heat of state being the queen who has no poltical power what so ever.. The queen cannot change laws nor should she..


I like the idea of the commonwealth.. I always have... And the admirers of the Queen include such well known coconuts Mugabe, Nhrurumah, Mandela, Kenyantaa, Even Mahatir, and Lee....I see no value in making a change to one of the few things unbroken.. personally I would like to see teh royal house reduced to 4 the head of state and three spares....

I think we must pay closer attention to our own domestic political situation.

there may be room for a discussion of whether the institution fits the culture. it's not always a matter of financial costs. if the queen has done no harm to jamaica, is that enough reason to have her as the head of state?

the japanese apparently value hirohito for the stability his office represents in the midst of all the economic uncertainty. the value ascribed to that office is cultural. elizabeth i think represents that for the folks in GB, don't know that she necessarily does that for the ex-colonies - including Canada. outside the british isles the institution is a bit of a relic, imo.

i'm not a republican, per se, but i do sometimes wonder that if jamaica had its own leader that spoke to its values in the way elizabeth does for GB and hirohito does for japan the people of jamaica might respond in more positive ways. if u know what i mean.

To be honest with you more4 I am not a royalist,and has never been a fan of the royal family,for various reasons which I wont go into right now.
However,my response is based on the issue of knighthood,as I stated previously,it really is a matter of choice,no one is forced to accept it.

As for the history of the monarchy I do agree that there is much to feel angry about,I dont know about others but I also think that there should be a limit to which one can feel angry about events of the past,let`s remember yes,but I dont think it is productive to continually burden ourselves,especially in a way that prevents progress.

You mention the jews,but look how self sufficient the jews has become since their &quot;holocaust&quot;...they created their own state,albeit a questionable one,how has black people progressed since slavery,even in africa the divisions are so wide they may as well be chalk and cheese.
As for how the issue is seen by many jamaicans,I cant speak for all of jamaica and admittedly I dont know enough about the jamaican constitution,..but I do feel that it would be in jamaica`s interest to cling on to it`s former masters coat tails for some time yet,..because in my opinion jamaica is just not ready yet.

As long as foolish people continue to use lies, half-truths and wacky conspiracy theories they deserve not to be taken seriously.
