Well,it depends on where the deceased is,if it`s in the country a number of things can happen,firstly the grave/vault is done free of charge,everyone comes around with a hoe and shovel and get to work,...all they need is sufficient liquor to ensure their elbows doesnt get stiff during the work......food must be provided as well.

If it`s a vault then you need to buy the materials,which I reckon works out about 20-30,000 ja dollars.

If there is sufficient lack of funds to buy a casket then one can also be made by the local carpenter.

If you chose to buy a casket from maddens or delaphena then a starter one may cost in the region of 70-80,000 ja dollars.

Jamaican funerals are not as cheap as they used to,as I found out when I buried my brother a few months ago,overall though there are usually lots of help from local people,when my brother died local people even fixed up the road so that the hearse could have a smooth path.

The starter price is what they call &quot;the package&quot;,so you can have a very modest package starting at the price I quote above,or a more expensive package which goes up by at least $20.000 depending on how fancy the casket is,...the &quot;package&quot; includes everything,from keeping the body to taking it to the church and onto the burial spot,...anything else is extra,like wreaths,and you have to provide the clothes,and other wardrobe stuff including aftershave/perfume.

If I remember correctly, I think the casket thru Madden was 50 or 60K. (this was 7 yrs ago) and for them to store the body another 40K.

Flowers, etc I sourced those locally and was given a nice discount by the kind owner. This was a flower shop in Ochi.

The cemetey keeper did try to rip me off but my great-aunt argued him down to I think 25K to secure a burial spot in the cemetery.

That is the best I can remember about the whole venture.
