oh wow.

this is what the summary of their Belize Creole section says:

"It could be described as the language that defines Belize in many ways and it may very well be the real unofficial language of Belize. Learn to speak Belize Creole (Kriol), have a Kriol discussion or an English discussion about Kriol."


I like that... could be more specific, but at least they have a section on it.

Okay. It seems there is perhaps some controversy, and the thread was the most viewed, but it's no big deal really.

Like I said I think that Jamaican patois is very lively, creative and poetic. It's cool. Social. The creativity is blazing to my brain with words like &quot;cratch,&quot; and &quot;crape,&quot; and exclamations like &quot;blouse 'n skirt!&quot; or &quot;boyaka!&quot; (We could go on forever!)... but you were enthused about the pride Belizians take in their Kriole, and how Jamaicans <span style="font-style: italic">ought</span> to take pride in theirs too... and I had a vision of sitting in a little bar by the side of the road, trying to convince the folks in there about how they should be proud about the language that comes out of their mouths. I think they would think I was mad.

Don't you think that more words have been written in Jamaican on Jams.com than anywhere else on the planet? I figure that will continue to be true for many 'ears to come.

Iron man seem to be a troll that is in the business of getting a process going to revert blacks and other minority to the use of languages that will stifle their upward mobilization by getting them to concentrate on education in languages that separate them from the world knowledge. They will be all big fishes in these small ponds.
I mean this is not lack of ability to speak ant if these creole dialects,but instead of spending money ti teach them how to access advance information in other languages they are going to waste money on teaching them in languages that have no use beyond the borders of these countries in an ever widening world. That will only reduce the access to Internet and all the free information available in world languages. It is a shame but people do all sort of things these days doing all sort of things for all sort of reasons..

<span style="font-weight: bold">1st:</span> One of the main things that I want people to know is that Jamaican Creole is <span style="font-weight: bold">much</span> more than just little, catchy sayings that you hear at the Jamaican resorts (i.e. &quot;Ya mon&quot;, &quot;no problem mon&quot;, &quot;buyaka&quot;, etc.). It's a language that has it's <span style="font-style: italic">OWN</span> <span style="font-weight: bold">syntax</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold">grammar</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold">vocabulary</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold">tenses</span>, etc. that are different from English.

<span style="font-weight: bold">2nd:</span> You talked about the sitting at a bar and trying to convince people to be proud of the language they speak. Well, in a poll done by UWI they found that <span style="font-weight: bold">79.5%</span> of the JA population believes that <span style="font-weight: bold">Jamaican Creole</span> IS a Language separate from English and <span style="font-weight: bold">78.6%</span> stated they are <span style="font-weight: bold">bilingual</span> speakers of <span style="font-weight: bold">English</span> AND <span style="font-weight: bold">Jamaican Creole</span>. So it seems like there wouldn't have to be too much convincing for most of the population.
