Tracking employees by face book

My boss was telling me one of her intern's called in telling her that she had a dental appointment and would be 30 minutes late. The intern never showed up for work or called back, my boss told me she was going to check to see if she had logged onto face book.

After many emails and worrying my boss sent her an email saying if she didn't respond within 30 minutes she was going to contact her parents. Within 5 minutes the girl emailed back saying that her mouth was hurting.

I have heard of employers firing employees for things on face book.

Actually I was trying to read something while the babies were sleeping. She did ask me if I had a face book a couple of weeks ago, I told her I don't have time for that mess. So I guess when I say I'm sick I should stay away from here.

I was off yesterday and was kind of worried for the girl, so many crazy people out here you just never know. The first thing I asked was did she hear from the girl, it probably didn't help I watched a show last night where this guy kidnapped a college girl and it was caught on cam, he kidnapped, raped killed and burned her.

Kevin Colvin, an intern at Anglo Irish Bank's North American arm, was busted when he told his manager, Paul Davis, that he'd miss work due to what colleagues took to be a &quot;family emergency&quot;. Davis turned up the photo above, freshly posted to Facebook from the Halloween party Colvin apparently missed work to attend, and attached it to his reply, copying the rest of the office as he did it.

Her boyfriend feels so guilty for asking her to stop at the store. He'll never be right with himself.

Managers think they have a right to see what employees are doing on social networking sites, while employees say it’s none of the boss’s business. What are your managers doing?

More than half (53%) of employees say their managers shouldn’t be able to view what they put on Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites, according to a recent survey by Deloitte. For workers 18-34 years old, that number jumps to 63%.

But most managers disagree — 60% say they deserve to know what their reports do online. The main reason: Monitoring and protecting the company’s reputation. Social networking gives users a chance to make details of their lives public — and work is a heavily discussed topic. Browse any Facebook profile or Twitter account, and odds are you’ll find something about the person’s job.

Managers might have a real cause for concern: One-third of employees admit that they never consider how their employer will be affected when they post material online. Almost 75% admit that social networking sites make employers more vulnerable to damaged reputations.
