Case against businessman accused of molesting child put off
Monday, 13 July 2009
The case against a prominent Kingston businessman charged with multiple counts of incest and indecent assault on his 12-year-old daughter, has been put off until August 14.
The preliminary hearing of the matter did not get off the ground Monday at the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court as scheduled.
The matter was to be heard at 2pm, but Resident Magistrate Ann-Marie Nembhard was advised by the Crown that several witnesses who had travelled a great distance to attend court had concerns about the late start.
After consultations with the defence, the judge decided to hear the matter on a date more convenient to all parties.
The 61-year-old businessman, who was arrested in February, is alleged to have been molesting his 12-year-old daughter since she was eight years old.
The businessman has commercial interests in Kingston, St. Catherine, Clarendon and Manchester and is being represented by Defence attorneys Peter Champagne and Vincent Wellesley.
RJR News continues to follow this story but has withheld the businessman's name to protect the child's identity.
