I wouldnt go as far as saying that. Government regulation of the food idustry and farmers does have a profound impact on what ends up on our tables.

I know what you are saying but regulation ad city planning does inevitably effect what I have as choices.

Example, access to fresh fruits and vegetables?? I visit relatives and the only places to eat in the neighborhood is fast food and crappy corner stores with even crappier produce. So it is easier to choose processed food that is unhealthy and CHEAPER.

Nearest decent grocery store you need to travel by car or bus to get to. Unlike where I live, I can walk to a good organic produce store. Which leads to the next part. The way some cities are designed..., exercising isnt easy.

I was in a Georgia suburb last year and the first thing I noted was that there were NO sidewalks anywhere. If you were going to walk, you are walking on the side of the road with little protection. To get any where like a park or any other green space, you had to drive. If you cannot afford to dirve, how willing are you to make the effort to do some type of outside activity?

I am lucky I can afford to pay gym fees and drive to a recreational spot if I so choose. And I have nice parks and greenspace within my neighborhood that are easily accessible.

So yes, governmnet regulation of the food system; access to food, and price regulation of said food does contribute to the choices some ppl even have. Sad but true.

Did I say that? No. But obese people... eat too much, and arent fit. There are no truly aerobically fit people who are obese. It doesn't happen.

Forgive me doc, but I know you have a treatment, perhaps even a cure for every thing that ails mankind, however write a book er something. In the mean time Im going to think that obesity is caused by people who eat too much, and are not fit. well we just have afit and healthy 50 year old politocian that just drop dead, a few years ago from heart attack. No he didn't hav ethe normal synptoms.
We call them the healthy dead. doing allll you suggest will maintain weight, but will not make them any heaklthier. some of thes people look so haggard, you can see their underlyuing tilments from a .


And you honestly believe that the majority of people can achieve that which you suggest to maintain fitness?
well we could simply open a power house and invite a thousand people who could pedal on stationary bikes that turn a generator to power the counrty. That would solve a number of problems don't it. MY book will not 9convince you any more than the fact that you have seen with your own eyes that stomach ulcers is not a thing of the last in 15c years and that haven't convinced you. I mean a simple stomach ulcer use to be a death sentence!! and that is not alarming to you??

I stated that people are obese because the government accept faulty advice from people who didn't know enough about what they were recommending.
As a result the government recommend diet control and exercise to correct was mistaken by the advisers,as a problem with will power.
what instead was necessary was the of investigation and correcting metabolic problems that is the real cause of the inefficient function of the metabolic systems of obese people. It is similar to treating psychological problems,addiction s if all kind as if they are a problem of will.
But you won't mind that. You will simply continue to blame people for harming themselves. Even if all evidence point to the opposite. It is politically correct. Since it will cause money to deal with. Not to bother about how much more it is currently costing under the present system for blaming people for what is a metabolic defect that is able to be resolves at much lower cost.

So obesity is a &quot;metabolic defect?&quot; There is some operation or pill that these metabolically challenged folks could have that would allow them to eat what, and how ever much, they wanted and they would not be obese? Sounds great!

40legz... this may not sound like it's solid science, and I'll be the first to admit it. And you've known me a LOOOOOONG time, and know that I prefer to stand on the side of the fence with science, right?

But.....

I asked DrDudd a long time ago about my own health problems, and my own obesity.
Granted - this was before I was diagnosed as having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome... but that's not relevant to what I'm about to say to you.

DrD gave me some generalized suggestions, based on what I did tell him about my health. I told him what I knew at the time...

And... well... his suggestions not only proved to be true for me/my body -- but my doctors now all agree with the basic principles of what he says.

And I have managed to keep &gt;100 punds of my obesity off permanently... even though I still weight ~200 lbs.
If I followed his advice still, I might be the 140 pounds that I should be.

And I should never have stopped following his advice... but I did, and it's extremely difficult to stop the cravings that my body still has, after my having gone back to my old habits.


This reminds me... all of my doctors are currently stymied by an ongoing medical problem that I've been suffering with... and since they've all but given up trying to figure it out to help me -- I think I'll PM Dr Dudd and ask for his advice.
Expect an incoming PM, DrDudd, sometime in the near future, when I have the strength to type it all out.
I still wish you were close enough for me to bring my medical records to you for an exam. These docs here are slowly killing me with their ineptitude and lack of education about EDS.

You could loose weight and gain muscle, but will you necessarily be healthy? Maybe not. It's not just about eating too much, it's also about what you eat. Foods with little or no nutritive value, high in cholesterol, and low in fiber will only lead to poor health, including obesity.

Some points were made above about access to exercise facilities, sidewalks, and green space, and also access to nutritious foods in certain communities, and I agree with those.

I think certain cultural habits in terms of what people eat also play a role.
