Taxi operator pleads guilty to assaulting 12-y-o child

A <span style="font-weight: bold">70-year-old taxi operator</span> who pleaded guilty to assaulting a 12-year-old schoolgirl was sentenced to 18 months' hard labour when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate Court yesterday.
Vexter Ralph of Portmore St Catherine was sentenced after he admitted to indecent assault.
When the senior citizen appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Greene, he admitted to the court that "mi put mi mouth pon her private part''. He was chided for his action.
Before handing down sentence, the RM told Ralph that he had committed a disgraceful act and that a message must be sent to the society.

The RM told the accused that it was the duty of adults to take care of children, and not to rob them of their innocence.
Investigating officer Valantia Raphael of the Waterford Police Station outlined in court that in December last year, he picked up the complainant in Waterford on her way to school. Instead of taking the child to school, he took her to the Jam World Entertainment Complex in St Catherine.
A police party on patrol in the area spotted a Toyota Camry motor car parked in a strange manner with the glass foggy.
Upon closer observation, the accused was seen in a compromising position with the child still in her uniform .
He was subsequently charged with indecent assault and have made numerous court appearances.
