These Jamaican men are KILLING me with their Drama

I wasn't aware that, in the past, when Jamaican men couldn't "control their wives" they would put ads in the newspaper to embarrass them. Does this still go on? What in the world were they trying to accomplish?


Example:

" I beg to warn the general public that my wife EDIT EDIT has left my care and protection from the Dated inserted. This is the second time. I am no more responaihle......."

this is not funny.... there was a time when presenting a cheque or proving you are the spouse of someone would get you credit. divorse was not always this easy. Women too took out these adverts...this was not for embarrassment but to ensure that you were not liable for any debts they incurred after the rift... The gleaner was taken as the paper of record.. I dont know if it was reliable legal method but if it was not done you were more likely to be held responsible for these debts.. I think the laws were improved post independence to make this more reliable...

But check with a cousin....
