who do you consider is allowed to call themselves Jamaican....a bona fide yaardie?

I notice that when it suits some ppl they will say another person isnt a Jamaican if they left JA when them small or were born else but have Jamaican parents.

Older ppl seem more keen to say you are Jamaican if your parents are such. They refuse to make the distinction between born on JA soil and not born on JA. I could never tell an older Jamaican that I was Canadian...they wouldnt hear of it. Parents were the same way.

Nowadays, I see this being used as a way to belittle others. Telling them they arent a true Jamaican because ______________(fill in the blank) I find it interesting that it is used as weapon now who to include or exclude.

So what is your definition

I see people on here (self included) say things like that to people like CB who noh eat curry or sittin like that but for myself it's in jest. but if yu born Jamaican or of Jamaican decent or Jamaican by injection in the big picture does it matter? unless yu a plan fi goh back an run for office?

and I get the joke part. That everybody does in good spirit. Even my friends tease me about certain things but I never feel a way about it.

I have just heard it being said to dismiss like someone's political arguement...things like that. And I just found it curious that it was meant to carry weight.

It dd just surprise the hell out of me. Wasnt directed at me but found it offensive to the person it was being said to.

well his comment did trigger the same ish I have heard from other folks mouth as well, so I needed to pose the question It is just intriguing when folks say it (not just on the BB but in real life) cause Lord God, I wasnt allowed to call myself anything but
