Thank you for your reply..... And for the welcome!! I am on a mission to learn about Jamaica. I felt sooooo bad when I was talking with my boss who is also Jamaican--- and I knew NOTHING about Jamaica. And I am 100% Jamaican, born of 100% Jamaicans- and married (then divorced) a 100% Jamaican.....

Sky, I can relate. Even though I am 100% born and bred Jamaican, I swear there are members here in the "tourist" section of the message boards who have seen more of Jamaica and can even probably talk better patwa than I. It is embarrassing!!! However, even though we have been removed from our culture you can't fully remove the "Jamaica" from a Jamaican, no matter how hard you try. I can't fully understand it but when I am around Jamaicans, whether here in Canada or when I visit Jamaica, I feel like I "belong". Like I said it is just ingrained in us. No logical explanation.

You will enjoy this site, of that I'm sure.

Never heard of him but found the following blurb online about a mento/jazz singer named Winston Roach from the 1940s/50s:

Many familiar names from mento and other less familiar names were remembered by Harltey:</span> <span style="font-style: italic">It was also the glory age for singers.</span> <span style="font-style: italic">There was Archie Lewis who migrated to England during the early '40s and became Britain's most popular singer.</span> <span style="font-weight: bold">Some, as Winston Roach did, patterned the style of Nat King Cole</span>.

Also reading that statement 100% Jamaican who knew nothing of Jamaica.....!!! Seems contradictory... Still yu is man or ooman ???? If yu is ooman yu have tick country ooman legs ???/
