What Lucia Whalen got

Poor Lucia Whalen.

First she was mis-represented. By Sgt. James (Jim) Crowley.

Now -- even worse -- she's being badly represented. By Wendy Murphy -- one of the Gloria Allred school of lawyers.

The type who attach themselves to hapless prey thrust into the public spotlight by promising to protect them. It can be Amber Frey or Lucia Whalen. To a parasitic lawyer -- they all provide the perfect client. A naive unworldly female being buffeted by the media. Susceptible to "there-there" cooing and the promise to protect them.

Then -- before you can say blood-sucking leech -- the lawyer proclaims a full-court press conference. With the lawyer at center-stage of course. The lust for that much craved for limelight is temporarily satiated. The klieg lights and shrubbery of media microphones are the lifeblood of your average Allred/Murphy.

Lucia does need legal representation

But she does not need a lawyer who exploited the opportunity of the press conference to make snarky remarks about President Obama and "guys" sharing a beer.

What a lawyer for Lucia Whalen should be doing is investigating the reason why Lucia Whalen was erroneously accused of being racist.

The tape of the 911 phone call that Whalen made -- is crystal clear.

She made no reference to "black men with backpacks"

So where did the meme get into the ether that the 911 caller might be racist?

Easy.

From the official police report filed by Sgt. James (Jim) Crowley.

"When I arrived at [redacted] Ware Street I radioed ECC and asked that they have the caller meet me at the front door to this residence. I was told that the caller was already outside. As I was getting this information, I climbed the porch stairs toward the front door. As I reached the door, a female voice called out to me. I turned and looked in the direction of the voice and observed a white female, later identified as Lucia Whalen.


Whalen, who was standing on the sidewalk in front of the residence, held a wireless telephone in her hand and told me it was she who called. She went on to tell me that she observed what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch of [redacted] Ware Street."

Ahh! So Whalen blabbed about the race of the would-be intruders to Crowley when he arrived at the scene.

Well actually... according to Whalen's account (at her press conference yesterday) of her conversation with Crowley on the day of the arrest:

"The only words I exchanged were 'I was the 911 caller' and he pointed to me and said 'Stay right there'. Nothing more than that."

So instead of Murphy trotting her client out in front of the media yesterday -- and then grandstanding with her own self-serving commentary on the issue -- including her predictable tarring of President Obama -- she should have been hard at work demanding to know how and why her client was falsely cited in Crowley's report.

We didn't see or hear that because it isn't part of Wendy Murphy's self-serving agenda

Poor Lucia Whalen.

She needs a professional lawyer concerned for her reputation -- as distinct from a shameless publicity hound intent on Allred-ing herself into this story as yet another limelight opportunity.

It's not as though Crowley has a stellar track record on this matter.

So far the two key people in this matter -- Professor Gates and Lucia Whalen -- have both utterly refuted his official report.

Obama was right in the real world, (maybe not politically) the police officer certainly did act &quot;stupidly.&quot;

But Professor Gates acted stupidly as well.

The fact that the charges were dropped proves, in and of itself, that the cop acted stupidly. Think of the tens of thousands of dollars this idiotic arrest has cost Cambridge taxpayers.

From all accounts, the Police Officer, James Crowley, taught a class in racial profiling, and otherwise has a good record, so I have no reason to think that he acted as a racist.


The arrest was totally illegal. You can't be arrested in your own home for &quot;disorderly conduct.&quot; It's a garbage charge. Massachusetts law says that there has to be a violent threat involved and usually it must occur in a public place.

So Crowley cleverly lured Gates, an elderly man with a cane, out on his porch so that he could arrest the Harvard Professor in a public place, in front of &quot;an ocean&quot; of burly police officers.

Bottom line: when cops put on a blue uniform and badge and a gun, many adopt an authoritarian bullying attitude... all the time.. They cross the line. The arrogance of power. Happens 10,000 times a day in America.

They want to be respected and kowtowed to. Sometimes this is necessary to maintain order and keep things from spiraling out of control... Most times it is not.

All cops think it is illegal to disrespect a police officer. News flash. It is not.

By the time Crowley arrested Gates, he knew he was a Harvard Professor, he knew he lived there. He knew Gates was a big deal, that there would be problems. But Gates kept verbally abusing the officer and calling him a racist, asking for his name and badge number.

Gates, too, couldn't bear being disrespected... he was offended that his exalted status was not being deferred to. My God, he had just come back from Shanghai and Beijing doing a documentary for PBS.

He did not rein in his outrage and was out of control. Would Gates have acted like that with a black cop?

But it is not illegal to be out of control in your own house. It's not illegal to say &quot;Ya, I'll speak with your mamma outside.&quot;

Police officer Crowley was the professional in the situation. He should have acted as a grownup, a Peace Officer intent on controlling chaos. Crowley did exactly the opposite of what he was trained to do. When he should have been defusing the situation, he escalated it.

Racist Former Cop Mark Fuhrman Calls Racial Profiling An ‘Ignorant’ Myth

Last night, Fox News’ Sean Hannity discussed whether President Obama has “alienated police” because of his recent comments on the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates. To investigate the issue, Hannity invited former Los Angeles police detective Mark Fuhrman.

Fuhrman is best-known for having been convicted of perjury stemming from his testimony on the witness stand in the O.J. Simpson murder trial when he lied about having made racist remarks in the past. Fuhrman was subsequently investigated by the L.A. Police Department and found in 1997 to have been allowed to “act out his prejudices” toward minorities and female cops while serving as a police officer.

Fuhrman declared “Sgt. Crowley has absolutely nothing to apologize for. Professor Gates has everything to apologize for. And the president should publicly apologize to Sgt. Crowley for his comments.” Fuhrman went on to tell Hannity that Gates “hindered” Crowley’s investigation, “challenged him, assumed he was racist solely because he was white,” and warned that’s how “riots start.” Hannity then asked whether Gates was guilty of racial profiling:

HANNITY: What does it say about Professor Gates? Is he the one that racially profiled here?

FUHRMAN: First, there’s no racial profiling. That’s the most — that’s the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard anybody say.

HANNITY: Did he have a racial predisposition?

FUHRMAN: He couldn’t have a racial predisposition unless somehow the radio gives him pictures of people before he gets there.

Fuhrman said on Fox News’ Hannity &amp; Colmes two years ago that the “people” he “dealt with…for 20 years” will “kill somebody and go have some chicken at KFC.”
