5:10 pm, Mon August 17, 2015
There was high drama in Black River on Monday, when a man who tried to relieve a customer of a branch of National Commercial Bank (NCB) of a large sum of cash, was stopped in his tracks by the bank's alert security guard.
The police are trying to determine if the alleged robber, who is now in hospital under police guard, is one of their own - a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
It's reported that, just before 1.00 p.m., a bearer was on his way to the bank when the robbery attempt took place. The bank's security officer came to the victim's assistance and the would-be robber pulled a firearm. The robber, who was reportedly wearing false locks, was shot in the leg.
The police, who later came on the scene, recovered a nine millimetre firearm which fell from the robber, and during a search they found a .38 revolver in his waistband.
DSP Hempford Wade, Crime Chief for St Elizabeth said the police have so far determined that the nine millimetre firearm is licenced to the alleged robber.
A probe is on to determine the origin and ownership of the revolver.
