my former job had a Rewards/Recognition program similiar to what you describe X...you could send someone a no cost e-thank you...or select something of monetary value from the corporate list...dinner, wine, amex gift check..in addition to the individual receiving the gift/email all the acknowledgements were permanently posted on the Recognition home page..a summary of what/how the individual was helpful..written by the person proffering the reward..
this program was not competive..if you thought someone was helpful or lived up to the company values you were encouraged to share this with the wider company

It is simple an inexpensive. I saw it work wonders at past job.
Materials needed
- Nomination ballots (name, what the person did above & beyond, when they did it)
- A Box
- Bulletin Board
- Gift Card ($5 Subway cards can work wonders)
Instructions
At the beginning of the month each employee is given 4 ballots. They must nominate 4 people for Kudos. They must drop the ballot in a box at a specific location. If there is a birthday gathering each month the Kudos are done there. The person with the most Kudos gets the prize. There "kudos" are also read at that gathering. All the Kudos for the month are placed on a bulletin board for everyone to see. This way no one is left out. </div></div>
