Local law enforcement officers are battling a wave of killings, robberies and shootings that had been sweeping the island over the past two weeks.
Data obtained by RJR News show that 30 persons have been killed since Monday, August 3.
The data also revealed that more than 40 persons were killed last week, pushing the country's murder rate to more than 900 with only five months remaining in the year.
The month of July was particularly bloody with nearly 160 persons being killed by criminals wreaking havoc across the island.
The police divisions of Clarendon, St. James, St. Catherine South, St. Catherine North and the Corporate Area continue to be a headache for members of the police force.
The cops say Westmoreland is now becoming a worry with a recent spate of killings.
One senior investigator told RJR News that the tough economic climate is preventing the Police High Command from providing monetary resources to pay informants and this is making it extremely difficult to get intelligence on the perpetrators of the violence.
Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin had promised a 5% reduction in murders this year.
