I don't think this is in the same ball park as someone saying 'You are so pretty for a dark-skinned girl'... </div></div>

Back hand compliments (i.e. ignorant ones), have no ball park, they all need to be knocked out of the park. </div></div>

If someone says you look good for your age, I don't see that as a backhanded compliment or an ignorant one. I have seen women in their fifties who look like they're in their seventies or older, and some, in their fifties who look like they're in their thirties.

For me, youth in that sense is attributive and therefore a compliment.

If someone said to a young person, you look awful for your age, it always means you look old. No-one wants to be told this and is always happy when they're told the reverse. 'cept you... ~lol~

This might not apply to you, but my brother-in-law hears that often from certain circles who attributes ugly with being black and pretty with being light-skinned or white (a very sad activity by many in our culture.

Since he is black and his wife is hispanic, I can only conclude that they'd be ignorant enough to apply that association because he is drop-dead handsome and she looks very average.

Beautiful skin (for me) has all to do with texture, smoothness lack of blemishes etc. and nothing to do with colour. I see dark women with beautiful skin, as well as very white women (red heads) with beautiful skin. Two extremes.

The remark that was made to you has to do with someone trying to fit a reality into their own fantasy.

thought of this thread as i watched Miss Nigeria Universe 2009 interview video. I think she's attractive in looks and intelligence. wouldn't it be something if she won?
