Can't the Govt censor some of these bloggers and news media who are mis-informing the public about the healthcare reform?

a mean I have read some utter crap on some of those blogs, things that are slander or close to it.

I understand freedom of speech as a right but come on, freedom of downright lies an misinformation???

Unfortunately, their stupidity is covered under the 1st Amendment.

If there was truly a marketplace of ideas facilitated by a robust free press/media, truth could easily be sifted from falsehood. Health insurance companies through their lobbyists (who are more than all the members of Congress combined, BTW) and right wing activists deliberately sow seeds of misinformation. Some know that what they peddle is false, but they have a vested interest in falsehood. Others are too ignorant. The opposition is characterized by a combination of ignorance, stupidity, selfishness and greed. I've watched some of these so-called town hall meetings on C-Span and for the most part, the ignorance and stupidity I hear would normally make me roar with laughter, but of late, I feel only pity for them.

Again, when we say that wide scale stupidity threatens democracy, or what's left of it, it's because - as Thomas Jefferson said - an informed citizenry is crucial to the functioning of a democracy.
