After some investigative report on WF I saw about two years ago, I had cut back on buying there. There's a farmer's market not too far from my house where I can get organic stuff, plus more supermarkets are expanding their health/whole foods section.

i agree with you.. they truck in their produce from the west coast to the east coast, how is that organic and environmentally friendly?

At this point in the game Whole Foods has sold their soul with their 'pastoral experience' marketing strategy

Well you can be like that when you have basically knocked out or taken over every other same store in cities where you operate.
That is how I came to be shopping at Whole Paycheck. When I got to NC it was near the end for Independents and Whole Foods was busy buying up or consolidating market share. The rout is now complete and they stand on top.

Yeah I too.... well first I was forced but now I am livicated to shop local and add less food miles to my diet. As you said the regular stores have expanded their whole foods section and in the cities where Whole Foods and say Harris Teeter operate here in NC the natural alternative to WF is HT especially after WF has gone to bed for the night.

I noticed the last time I was in there the so-called local foods section was smaller. I thought it was the drought and the economy.

is this strategy similar in scope to starbucks' predatory model? sounds like it, in which case they may be forced to shrink back now that all their comp is choked out in a sense.

At some point, the pressure to maximize shareholder returns, and maintaining the core philosophy of its founding, come into conflict. Goods even go across the northern border and across the Atlantic between the US and UK.

What seems to happen is a media personality makes a comment on an article and get people to join the bandwagon but the people dont go and read the article to come up with their own judgement. This seems to be happening a lot lately.
