A police Constable being sought by the Police High Command for robbery and attempted murder has reportedly slipped out of the country and is now in the United States.

Sources close to the investigation told RJR News that the Constable boarded a flight last week Friday and headed for New York, despite a stop order that was sent to immigration officials at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Investigators who went to the airport to probe <span style="font-weight: bold">how the Constable left Jamaica despite the stop order </span>were reportedly given several differing accounts as to how the foul-up occurred.

In the meantime, the St. Andrew Central Police are investigating a second policeman in the alleged robbery racket and he is now negotiating to surrender to investigators.

The St Andrew Central Police began probing the fugitive Constable and his colleague who are based at the Constant Spring Police Station, following the attempted murder of an alleged robber three weeks ago.

It is alleged that on July 29, the Constable and a group of men went to a house in Stony Hill where they held up and robbed men believed to be involved in the lottery racket.

After pulling off the robbery, the men went to premises off Waltham Park Road to share the loot which included money and computers.

But an argument developed among the men over how the loot was to be shared.

Guns were reportedly drawn and one of the men was shot eight times, twice in the head.

His cohorts then dumped him in nearby bushes, believing him to be dead.

However, the man, who was only pretending to be dead, clawed his way out of the bushes and was later taken to hospital by the police.

He then blew the whistle on the Constable and his cronies

This can and will continue to happen, because Jamaican real estate laws allow attorneys instead of deposits being made to special accounts in financial institution that neither attorneys or Sellers have any access to until the sale is complete. That is how it work in civilized countries. a change to that deposit rule, would also speed up the transactions. since the attorneys have no benefit from interest on the deposits as they do under present laws. Well-known Kingston based attorney Oswald James has been charged with fraud.

Mr. James of the firm James and Company was charged Friday afternoon by detectives from the Fraud Squad after being accused of defrauding his clients of more than $20 million.

Mr. James had been under investigation over the past several months in a multi-million dollar real estate deal that went bust.

Two months ago, the complainants, who are based overseas, made a report to the Fraud Squad after the attorney reportedly failed to refund them the US$230,000 or $20 million they allegedly gave him.

He has been offered $500,000 station bail and is to appear in court on August 24.
