James Bond writer says Idris Elba too street & Adrian Lester be better Bond...

What say you on this. What does he mean by street. Does he even know the guy. I can see Idris as Bond but not Adrian Lester....just like I could see Pierce Brosnan as Bond but not Timothy Dalton.

“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” Horowitz said. “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Instead of Elba, Horowitz suggested Adrian Lester, who starred in the British series Hustle.

Bond is a despicable character... a 14 year old boys image of masculinity..

Take for instance the Angelina Jolene character in Salt... She plays a Russian secret agent who is replaces a yankee in the 1980's.. Why could the actor not been black ?

Bond who is perpetually 35...is the orphan of a poor historical Scottish Laird and a French lady... I came at Bond from the books. And 35 years ago can you see a black Scottish laird ? The idea of a adopted child does not quite fly because he is their natural son....

having said that Mohammed Al Fayad own huge estates in Scotland...an Egyptian bond with Dodi Al Fayad as Bond..

But then in Her Majesties Secret Service.. bond is Baronet of Peckham... an area of London where a lot of Jamaicans settled...

On Idris... When he played a Norse God in Thor, I understand that there was negative comments on Fox of his characterisation!


I think Salt or Bourne has a better argument for being cast as black than Bond...or Even Mr & Mrs Smith, ....Given they are Yankee characters.

Where a black actor plays a white action star from a book.. Look at Denzel Washington in "Man on Fire" a character that in a book By Quennel is an ex yanki French forgind Legionnaire who survived Diem Bein Phu... ... They brought it up to date and changed the location from Italy to Mexico...The orginal filme of this book starred Scot Glenn...

Other actionaires and here it is interesting.. "Shooter" with Mark Warburg.. Directed by Antione Furqua a African American Director... is based on another character Bob Lee Swagger from a book by Stephen Hunter Point of Impact.. Why could the Warburg character not been cast as Black given a black director ? Furqua did the film The Equaliser reboot with Denzel again playing a character who was originally white

I still cant see Idris as Bond.. Colin Salmon or Chetweh yes...
