Tension grips downtown Kingston after news surfaced that the son of incarcerated gangster Donald ‘Zeeks’ Phipps was shot by the police.

Leonardo Phipps was rushed to the hospital a short while ago after being shot and injured in the West Kingston community of Mathew’s Lane.

Leonardo Phipps, 22-year-old was shot by the police on Matthews Lane, in Kingston, Thursday afternoon he was later rushed to the hospital.

A large contingent of police is also currently in the community.

The elder Phipps is serving life imprisonment for the 2005 murder of Dayton Williams and Leroy Farquharson.

The son of former Matthews Lane don Donald ‘Zeeks’ Phipps, is now under police guard at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).

A large crowd has converged on the Kingston Public Hospital where Phipps is being treated.

A large number of spectators have gathered along Matthew’s Lane in downtown Kingston after the son of convicted area leader Donald ‘Zeeks’ Phipps was shot by police Thursday afternoon.

The circumstances behind the younger Phipps’ shooting are unclear, however residents have claimed that he was shot on his way to collect his daughter’s birthday cake.

“Dem shot him in him back, and they ran into dem car and drive off fast,” one resident told Loop News.

Renardo Phipps, whose condition is unknown at this time, was transported via public passenger vehicle to the KPH – where it is understood he is under heavy police guard at the Accident and Emergency department.

When contacted, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said their investigations into the matter are incomplete and have no further comment until such time.

Renardo Phipps, also known as ‘Zeekie’ was shot around 4:30pm – meanwhile a massive police presence is being maintained in the area.
