Policewoman killed at home

Up to late last night the police had not released the name of their female colleague who was shot dead by gunmen in Mount Ogle, St Andrew yesterday evening.

The incident reportedly happened around 6.30 p.m.

The policewoman was assigned to the Constant Spring station.

Its reported that she was at home when men travelling in a grey Toyota Corolla motor car drove up and opened fire hitting her.

The policewoman was pronounced dead at hospital.

Her firearm was also reported stolen by the men.

The latest incident brings to eight, the number of police personnel killed since the start of the year.

And how long before they gunmen shoot out the camaras you mean. Ther is a set in Mandeville, but as usual I give it 6 months before it will simply stop working and nobody will repair it. that is teh life span of any technology introduced to jamaica. It is as good as th efirst needed repair. i notice you are quick to ask for a piece of nonsense that people can simply get around, instead of deaking with the only deterrent. you don't think there's any place for cameras in j-a?
i overstand the argument about making firearms accesible to citizens, but you don't think there could be a hidden camera program that could assist the police &amp; (in the future) possibly armed citizen watches?

so why are so-called first world nations employing this as a crime-fighting technique more &amp; more?
or are jamaican criminals a step ahead

A woman police corporal died last night in the University Hospital of the West Indies, where she was taken after gunmen shot her at premises in Lawrence Tavern, rural St Andrew.

Details surrounding the shooting were not available last night, but officers said the policewoman was attacked and shot several times. It was not clear if her service pistol was taken by her attackers.

She was assigned to the Area Five Police Headquarters in Constant Spring, St Andrew.

The shooting death of the policewoman, whose name was being withheld until her next of kin was informed, brought to eight the number of cops murdered since January this year.

Last night, head of the St Andrew North Police Division Superintendent Anthony Castelle said the loss of the officer was devastating.

&quot;All of us are in mourning at this time; she was dedicated to her work and was a very disciplined individual,&quot; Castelle said.

A policeman at the Constant Spring Police Station was incensed at the brazen attack on his colleague and vowed to bring her killers to justice.

&quot;Those heartless scoundrels killed a decent, hardworking Jamaican woman and I will not rest until I find them. We will be hunting them and they will feel the full force of the law when we catch them,&quot; the cop said.

docs argument is based on everybody being armed (or most people being armed ) so that there is a good probability that anybody nearby would be able to intervene.

but doc it seem like alomst every day you open the Jamaican paper you read about a gunman(or men) opening fire on a police or military patrol. And there have been several incidences of attacks on police stations

Senior detectives from the St. Andrew North Police are hunting for the gunmen who Wednesday shot and killed a female corporal at a house in Mount Ogle, Lawrence Tavern.

RJR News was informed that the police woman was gunned down in front of her father.

It is reported that shortly after six Wednesday evening the corporal drove up to a house.

She was outside the premises talking to her father when armed men walked up.

One of the men opened fire hitting the corporal in the neck.
