I am so tired of the discrimination and frankly I would like to settle this right now. I may hurt a lot of persons feelings after this but please have an open mind and realize we have different backgrounds and are accustomed to different things.
But whether you like it or not it has been an ongoing issue that does not seem like it will die down anytime soon. Whether you are dark, brown or white I am going to have a preference... and I'll be honest I don’t like the whites, they rub me the wrong way and leave me so disappointed.

Darks are so damn bitter, I can hardly stand them either. always bitter for no good reason, yes you are in your natural form but who cares….you could be a little sweeter to us all.

The browns, I simply can’t get enough of you. so sweet, so pure, so kind to me… perfectly mixed. I will never put you away, I love you!

So I know you must be mad, disappointed or even fuming at your screen… thinking about how you are going to shun me. But I’m sorry I love chocolate but not all… call me chocolatist call me anything but I like what I like….. Cadbury fruit and nut anyone?

Kaci's 'chocolate' blog post upsets social media users


KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Miss Universe Jamaica Kaci Fennell has come under attack on social media, following a blog post she made about chocolate.


The post, titled "Just for the Record", was posted today on her blog account at www.fenmade.com, outlining her personal preferences with regards to chocolate.


"Whether you are dark, brown or white I am going to have a preference... and I'll be honest I don’t like the whites, they rub me the wrong way and leave me so disappointed,"wrote the former Miss Universe Jamaica.


"Darks are so damn bitter, I can hardly stand them either. Always bitter for no good reason, yes you are in your natural form but who cares… you could be a little sweeter to us all," she continued.


"The browns, I simply can’t get enough of you. So sweet, so pure, so kind to me… perfectly mixed. I will never put you away, I love you!" she expressed in reference to her chocolate preference, which was only made clear in the closing sentences of her blog.


"So I know you must be mad, disappointed or even fuming at your screen… thinking about how you are going to shun me. But I’m sorry I love chocolate but not all… call me racist call me anything but I like what I like….. Cadbury fruit and nut anyone?" she concluded.


People who apparently failed to read to the end of Fennell's post have chastised her for being a disgrace and uneducated.


One person said: "Wow! I guess intelect (sic) is really not a factor for this title."


While another said: "This is the most uneducated rant ever. Shame on you. You should not be representing my country!!"

Poor use of similes and metaphor. Quite frankly, the subliminal message about race discrimination is frank. Considering your background and culture, one should be cautious of what you chose to endorse and the poor play on words. Not a fan any longer, expected better!

Racism is a sensitive topic, even if it is metaphorical racism. If any american public figure, white or black posted anything like this, they would have been fired in a New York minute. Jamaica has deep issues concerning race and class. It is already thought that Jamaica practices light skin supremacy. Time and time again, the people who we choose to represent Jamaica are people who do not represent the majority of Jamaica. Its almost pointless for any blue-black Jamaican to enter miss word with any hopes of winning, because the ones with a more European standard of beauty wins in most cases. How do you expect people to feel when the girl that already is considered an uptown elite posts something like this?

In light of the major underlying issue, it was a poorly constructed joke. Almost borderline racist. On another note, I dislike white chocolate. Go browns!

She did make alot of racial slurs to begin her statement/bio and try to cover it up in the end with her chocolate situation but as Jamaican would say is not what you say is how you say it and from my prospective in what I just read is that she is being racist ignorant stupid and thin skin just my views

Is this 'Ignorant' statement really coming from "Miss Universe"... Wow! I guess intelect is really not a factor for this title. Kaci, educate yourself before you speak your mind publicly. This level of opinionated arrogance was never displayed by Yandi or those before you, please observe the title you hold or held. Kids your age and younger may see this as you venting, but please remember that they are also impressionable. As someone of status in this country take a page out of Sean Paul's wife book. Leave your personal arrogant opinions private. This dark skin Jamaican would really appreciate not reading things like this come from people like you. Have a wonderful life!

Not even if I was sipping on mad puss piss would I post anything racial or discriminatory and sign it as mine and my opinion. BUT, I do find myself guilty of allowing my personal angst to prejudge things and situations before properly assessing. And that honesty is what sparked the idea to do this and boy am I pleased with the results.

I don’t understand why someone would want to be comical about a sensitive topic such as race. I guess as a fair skinned upper class woman, it’s hard for Kaci to imagine the implications and hurt that can be caused when one resorts to using stereotypical connotations associated with colour for a laugh. The ‘chocolate’ article was done in bad taste and I am disappointed that Kaci found it humorous to conflate her chocolate preferences to that of racial divides and skin tone- especially in a Jamaican society where classism and elitists views are well embraced by upper class fair skinned Jamaicans as a means to marginalize Blacks. The point is, it caused offence and ruffled some feathers. Instead of justifying the intention behind the article, simply accept that the article was crass and that certain topics should never be used for the sake of having a laugh.

Before I begin, let me ask all my wonderful readers a question.
Have you ever been accused of being discriminatory because of your preference for one type of chocolate over another?
Has anyone ever called you a “chocolatist”? Answer this question, and you will have a good idea of how the rest of this blog post is going to go.

I ask again, if this article was simply about chocolates, then what does discrimination and being a “chocolatist” have to do with one’s preference for chocolate?

Do we discriminate against inanimate objects based on their colour, or do we discriminate against people? Is it a coincidence that this blog post comes shortly after the controversy concerning Miss Universe Jamaica and the lack of medium and dark-skinned black winners over the past decades even though these types of people make up most of the country?

Does the “darks are so damn bitter” comment really refer to chocolate? Or is it really a sly insult towards the Jamaicans who complained about the discrimination that occurs in these pageants? I’m sure most of us have heard this “b” word directed towards black people at some point, a word that is often directed towards those of us who dare to be vocal about racism and buck the system that tells us that we need to accept that our lives don’t matter or that they matter, but they matter less than the racially privileged class.

Kaci, you may think that we are stupid, but we are not. There are those of us who were not asleep in literature class, and we know how to spot metaphors. We know how to read between the lines. To think otherwise would be a sad misconception, perhaps yet another product of your racism, or should I say, chocolatism.

On the off-chance that you were actually silly enough to write such an article for the sake of attention……..well, my conclusion remains the same. I would still view you as a racist, because of your lack of respect for the same black “bitter dark” Jamaicans who rallied around you when you competed internationally.
