Andrea Jones, the mother of Akelia Princess Lewis, the student of Prickly Pole Primary and Infant Junior School in St. Ann who died on Friday - says her daughter was not involved in a protest.
According to Jones, any attempt to insinuate that her daughter died while on a political protest against Member of Parliament for St Ann South Eastern, Lisa Hanna, does not accurately reflect events on the ground.
Jones said her daughter was merely approaching the bus in which the protestors were traveling, to greet a cousin .
Media statements by Minister of Youth Lisa Hanna and Minister of Education Ronald Thwaites indicating that the child died in a protest has been condemned by Chairperson of Prickly Pole Primary and Infant School Vinette Robb as reckless and premature.
Jones also said that attempts to point fingers at Robb and Councillor of the Bensonton Division in St Ann, Lydia Richards are not helpful at this time.
She added that there was nothing to be gained politically from the protest, stating that it was just about the need to repair the school's ground.
According to Robb when it rains heavily, students are trapped in the school for hours as water and mud surround the building.
She said when it becomes hot and dusty many students develop respiratory problems.
She said the Member of Parliament distributed a document stating that she paved the school yard between 2013 and 2014 at a cost totaling almost $3 million.
Robb said knowing that no work has been done at the school, parents and residents were concerned whether the money had been disbursed but used for other purposes.
She said the money was a joint venture between the Tourism Enhancement Fund and the National Solid Waste Management Agency as part of a $4 million Christmas work programme in the Bensonton Division.
