Have we reached that far where it is ok to admit to someone that you googled them?

I was talking to a friend of mine and I mentioned something I had done in the past, only to hear

"yeah, I know, I Googled you"

"oh, you did? did you do a criminal check on me while you were searching?"

&quot;no, that didn't cross my mind&quot; <span style="font-style: italic">(spoken in a very matter-of-fact tone)</span>

Yuh evah tell anybody dat yuh search dem up online? Me nain tink it was acceptable social behavior to tell smaddy dat yuh look dem up.

Yes, I know people will pay the fee and get info on people they are thinking of entering a serious relationship with. I have no problems with that.

But would you tell the person, 'I paid for a thorough background check, and since you passed we can go to the next level' And if they failed, would you tell them 'since you have a history of writing bad checks, and are currently on probation for a misdemeanor, we can't pursue a serious relationship.' or would you just ease out before things go any further, and use one of the old fashioned excuses?

I have a friend who swore by the background check. She did one on a guy she was seeing. Turned out he had a history of writing bad checks, had fraud charges in about three different states (can't recall if any convictions). So den she search him modda, and find dat di two a dem was basically two con-artists moving from state to state.

She drop him like a hot potato. And said she so glad she paid di money fi check out di both a dem. Cause it could have end up costing her a whole lot more.

Well I guess it's part of the getting to know you phase. So if you realize the person has a characteristic that you cannot accept, whether he or she tells you directly or not, then you move on. Confrontation may be optional on certain things. What if you visit and there are two toothbrushes in the bathroom - well you might discuss that. But if you fine out seh de lady been married 4 times......RUN TO DE HILLS. Nah, but that's something you might have to consider and maybe back out of.....

Yes...BUT...I would expect my friend to have already given the warning if him a fraudster or criminal or dem ting deh if dem know.

So I guess it would all depend on why I felt the need to google dem.
