Mike Cunning was cleaning salmon with his neighbour on the dock last night when he heard a splash and thought his daughter Caleigh had fallen into the water.
Cunning says he wasn’t concerned because she was wearing a life jacket, but that changed when she didn’t come up immediately.
When Caleigh did pop back up, she said the seal grabbed her, and the neighbour confirmed he watched the seal leap out of the water and grab the girl by the wrist from the edge of the dock.
Cunning says his daughter has been treated in hospital for puncture wounds to her hand but is otherwise OK, though she thinks it was very rude of the seal not to ask if she wanted to go for a swim.
He says seals are a common sight in the area, especially in the summer as fishermen clean their fish off the docks.
