To the flowing rivers of the blue lagoon
You have brought joy to my soul
With the sights and sounds of home
You have massaged my spirit
Strengthened my resolve
And stole my heart throughout
Guess what,
While you were busy filming and snapping away
I stole a taste of your drinks
To wash down a couple of your delicious dumplings
Catch a fresh in your outside shower
Grabbed a little shut-eye in your favorite bed
And spread out in your boat on a ride down the Rio
You’ve made me smelled the roughed up grass at the football game
Appreciated the hot sweaty ride down that bumpy road while homeboy spar with his dad
My feet still tingle from the sandy beaches as the waves rushed in to play with my unpainted toes
My natural hair wrestled with the cool, cool breeze and the beaming sun
As I made my way down those never-ending steps …down to the Blue Lagoon
Going down was slippery but going back up made me appreciate the muscles I now have in my back foot.
I’ve slipped and slide
Danced and drank
Laughed and loved
Sang and slept
Cried and sighed
Ate and appreciate
All that you have brought back
Not just a little piece of an island
A big piece of paradise
And a big whole piece of heaven…aka Jamaica!
