I am surprised that Powell did...better he had not done so IMO...if he couldn't back the black candidate.

..and yes, I said it, I really don't see why Bloomberg would want to run for a<span style="font-weight: bold"> third </span>term at a dollar per year...he must have something to gain...no way in Heaven nor hell can he fool the intelligent that he is doing this out of pure altruism....this man who called striking MTA workers &quot;hooligans&quot;...*aye sah* ..and was instrumental in the MTA that had a surplus raising the fares...and converting NYC into a wussah traffic nightmare by closing parts of 7th Avenue ...this man is living in fantasy land, not in reality.

I think some in the black community have made a big mistake demonizing Colin Powell especially when he was in office. I totally lost respect for Harry Belanfonte when he call him an Uncle Tom. He was the voice of reason in an administration bent on war. He was literally forced out because of this. Any back to this issue of supporting a non-Black candidate. When he supported Obama he heard it from the &quot;right&quot; that he was only supporting him because he was black. Now that he is supporting Bloomberg he is not &quot;black&quot; enough. I think Colin Powell should endorse who he thinks is the best candidate black or white for the job. Based on what I have seen I think he is fair.

PS: Don't get me started on the missed opportunity Jamaicans had when he was in the administration. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat if you can help Jamaica I am for it.

cut 2 sides when it suit him. He was a life long democrat until he decided he wanted to be mayor and the party did
not back him he changed to republican and now he is an independent all because he wants to be mayor of NYC (power)
is something else.

Heard it on my way to work yesideh that he endorsed him simply because he wants to endorse a REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE...nothing more, nothing less...so here we go again, if that is correck, playing party games..

Britisha, not sure I agree with that. I can't read Colin Powell's but he seems like the person who is going to pick the best person regardless of party. Colin Powell's record show he is a moderate. He endorsed Obama over one of his best friends (McCain).

NYC politics is never black and white in the metaphorical sense. So many NYC voters vote across party lines and one can't look at national politics and apply it to NYC politics.

Colin Powell has an independent mind and he leaves both the Republican and Democratic parties scratching their heads yet scrambling to get him to endorse them.

i have always admired Colin, he is his own man, he is not apparent, he speaks what he feels, i believe he unlike the others, cant be made to say or do, what he is told, but stand up for what he believes!!

For the record, Colin Powell is a man who I've always held in high esteem...however, I strongly believe that partisan politics might be at play here....politics create strange bedfellows...there is some truth to that. As for endorsing Obama over McCain, his good friend...he had no choice...For the poor showing of McCain in the debates, his selection of a semi-literate for a running mate, no way could he continue to have serious respect had he endorsed McCain....and historically, politicians SELDOM, IF EVER cross party lines to endorse one from the opposite party.

I hear you Xavier, and if you remember some ugly fights went down in Int'l Forum between a certain poster who called Powell a H..N**er, and a UT..I think there were only 2 other posters who joined me in the defense...other than that the silence here was deafening, so I share your sentiment on this one...be that as it may, we don't know what is/was said at domino games and in watering holes and other venues, and who might have defended Powell.

I also remember when Condie Rice was lambasted here as well and called similar ugly names...

I'm sure that Powell was well received last Monday on the Parkway; just that I found it rather unusual that Bloomberg saw the need to ask for his endorsement....Thompson has a lead among blacks, so Bloomie with the millions that he is outspending his opponents by, obviously still sees a need to seek the endorsement of a high-profile person like Powell.

<span style="font-style: italic">Here listening to the debate between the two aspiring front runners for the Democratic nomination...well from the looks of it, in a nutshell,<span style="font-weight: bold"> Bloomie is not for the poor, black nor white,</span> the City is suffering, police brutality against blacks is still of grave concern, people's Civil Liberties are at stake etc etc so I don't see how Colin would've endorsed him...unless there are other plans down the road that we are not privy to.</span>
