Six members of one family are now dead following a gruesome attack at the five-roon house in Mark Town, Green Island, Hanover on Thursday night.

The police report that at about 11 PM, gunmen shot up the house before setting the premises ablaze. Four of the occupants managed to escape the blaze, but six others were not so lucky.

The dead are reported to be three males and three females ages ranging from teenagers to 73-years.

Police report that, when they were summoned to the scene, the heat from the inferno was so intense that they had to stand 50 feet away while firefighters battled the blaze.

Green Island a once peaceful district, has become a hell-hole with rival gangs taking the law into their own hands and in the community and have law-abiding citizens trembling in fear. A number of lives have been taken and others shot and injured as the hoodlums rule with an iron fist.

Police said investigations are at an early stage.



The identities of the six persons slaughtered in the gruesome gun and arson attack in Mark Town, Green Island, Hanover have been released.

They are 63-year-old Linette Bloomfield; Kerry-Ann Bloomfield, 36; Mark Bloomfield, 40; Alliah Mahabee, 17; Avion Mahabee, 15; and Brian Mangaroo, 19.

The burnt remains of the six were found among the completely destroyed five bedroom board house, which was the scene of the attack which occurred about 11pm Thursday.

Police report that residents heard loud explosions and realised that the building was on fire.

Four others who occupied the building managed to escape with severe burns and have been admitted to the Noel Holmes Hospital.

Residents of Logwood in Hanover are still in disbelief after news came that six residents of the community were brutally murdered Thursday night in an attack which has been described as a massacre.

According to reports, at about 11 Thursday night four men in a Toyota Corolla motorcar, popularly referred to as a Kingfish, entered the community and kicked open the door of a five apartment dwelling.

The men reportedly opened fire and set the house ablaze.

When the smoke cleared the six, who are all from the same family, were dead.

The dead have been identified as 63-year-old Linnette Bloomfield, her 40 year old son Mark Bloomfield, her 36-year-old daughter Kerry- Ann Bloomfield and her nephew 30-year-old Byron Mangaroo.

Kerry-Ann Bloomfield's two children 15-year-old Davian Mahabee and 18-year-old Alia Mahabee were also killed in the attack.

Four other members of the family managed to escape and have been taken to hospital.

Relatives of the deceased insist the family was not involved in any wrong doing.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Wichroy Badoo vowed to find those responsible for the crime.




Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams says the police have established the motive behind last night's attack on a family that left six people dead and four in hospital.

Williams along with National Security Minister Peter Bunting on Friday visited Campbellton Road in March Town Hanover where the killings took place.

Following a tour of the house where the attack took place, the Commissioner said the police have been making progress.

"We know who they are, we have intelligence, we have strong leads... .we are going to bring them to justice.... (it's) a dispute from several weeks ago I am not going to speak on the details now, but we have a very good sense of what led up to this killing last night."

He said additional police and military resources will be sent to the community.

"We are going to get a team of say operational people here in Hanover and they will not leave the parish until they are found," he said.

The family was attacked after 11pm when the house was shot up and fire bombed. Four others who were injured in the attack, remain in hospital in serious condition .

Meanwhile, National Security Minister Peter Bunting says over the last month the parish has been placed under the radar in the Area One Division.

He says Hanover has more murders than Kingston and St Andrew combined.

"I would appeal to the ladies, stay away from these gangsters, they come to visit and they will put the rest of your family at risk. As we have seen, when you get into this reprisal and counter reprisal violence, they don't care who is the target......" Bunting said.

He added that Member of Parliament, Ian Hayles is off the island on government business and will visit the community when he returns.
