Moshupa dragon strikes again

A 27-year old Moshupa man narrowly escaped death after being attacked by a 'legendary dragon' of the village's Mosope river on Monday. Sekete Segadimo of Rakgopa ward who feels very lucky to be alive after coming face to face with a green eyed and human faced dragon was still nursing bruises and shock when The Voice team caught up with him at his home on Tuesday.
Segadimo was met with shock on Monday when he was about to cross Mosope river, not very far from a dreaded rock inside the river known as Fikeng where the river dragon is believed to be an inhabitant.
"It was around 7pm and I was with my cousin Baagi Babutsi. Since we were walking in a narrow path I was on the lead and just when we started to descend from the riverbank an abnormally white object in the river caught my attention. It was on our path and when I looked I noticed a human face without arms or legs. It was just a white man's face but it did not have any human body because it was abnormally long and with green eyes. There was also a light from its side and I immediately froze on my tracks and made a u turn. That is when I told my cousin to run but I fell. Suddenly a superpower seized my left arm and I could not move. Luckily my cousin pulled me out. He kept pulling and suddenly we heard a big splash into the nearby water and he managed to pull me out.'"
Segadimo added that his left side suddenly went numb and cramped and he failed to walk without support. His cousin had to carry him on his back in a very long and slow journey which saw them reaching home just before mid night.
"We had to change routes and we took a long way around so that we can cross at a safer point," added Segadimo.
Segadimo has been treated for shock and was on sleeping tablets this week. The troubled relatives had to take him to a traditional healer on Tuesday morning where he was made to vomit green stuff.
"The doctor said he had come in contact with the snake poison hence he made him vomit. He had breathing difficulties as well." pointed out Segadimo's other cousin, Atamelang Tumelo. The matter was never reported to the Police.
Just last month an elderly man of Phuting ward in the same village was found dead inside shallow waters of the river, just a few meters from these week's place of incidence.
Omphitlhetse Goirwamang, 68, was buried with suspicions he was pulled into the still water by the dragon commonly known as Bushi, Seriri or the river snake.
"When he was pulled out he had bites on his face and the police said he was probably bitten by small creatures that stay in the water," said the deceased niece, Montlenyane Nthake. His other niece, Kagiso Radipelo, does not buy into speculation that the oldman tripped and fell into the river. "The water was too shallow and there is no way he could have fell into this water."
Many incidences have been reported in the past years with lives being lost mysteriously in this river that runs across the village and never runs dry. Moshupa residents avoid crossing the river where it leaves the Phuting/kgosing hills.
They claim the dragon has been terrorizing the village for centuries and nothing can be done about it.
"I was born in this village 65 years ago and we heard different stories about the dragon. Although we know it is dangerous no one can do a thing about it unless they want to die,” said Boikhutso Tumelo.
Meanwhile Moshupa Police has confirmed a single case of drowning in the same river this year. Station commander Onkemetse Tawana of Moshupa police reveled that although there were two other recorded cases last year, they are still to confirm whether they happened in Moshupa or not.
