US Embassy introduces visa information service for immigrant visa applicants

ON September 1, 2009, the US Embassy introduced the newest enhancement to the official Visa Information Service (VIS). Applicants are able to access additional information on immigrant visas to the US, as well as schedule follow-up immigrant visa appointments should they receive a Blue Sheet Letter (221(g)) from the Embassy at their first interview.
Immigrant visa applicants must use the telephone service to access this additional information and to schedule a Blue Sheet Letter appointment. Blue Sheet Letter appointments cannot be scheduled via the Call Centre's website.
Applicants may contact the Call Centre Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm (local time), except Jamaican and US holidays. Persons calling from Jamaica can reach the Call Centre by dialling 1-876-621-0252 or 1-800-572-7780. Persons calling from the US or the Cayman Islands can reach the Call Centre by dialling 1-202-621-2128 or 1-888-243-4840.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Using a credit card</span> over the phone to access the service:
*Follow the voice instructions you will hear when you access the call centre.
*Enter credit card information when prompted.
* Receive eight minutes of call time for US $13; time begins when an agent answers. You may write down the PIN number in case you do not use the full eight minutes and you need to call back.
Buying a PIN at a National Commercial Bank branch:
*Purchase a Visa Information Service PIN for US $13. The PIN can be used on the next business day after purchase.
*Receive eight minutes of call time which begins when an agent answers. You may write down the PIN number in case you do not use the full eight minutes and you need to call back.
While the United States Visa Information Service is the only authorised source of US visa information by phone, such information is also available on the Embassy's Website at http://kingston.usembassy.gov.
The American Embassy staff in Kingston will answer any questions you may have regarding US consular law, regulations and/or practice. In order to respect the privacy of applicants, the embassy will not answer questions on specific personal applications.
