this empty office

as i walk around the office, i can't help but notice all the empty work cubicles and associate offices.

what kills me is they got rid of the copy centre people who i'm sure aren't making even $30,000/year, but they keep the guys making upward of $300,000 and billing 3 hours a day. it's their firm i guess

Smart managers keep the bread winners regardless of their salary.

What type of office would you have if all of the strategic and tactical staff were let go because of them salary and all the operational staff were left to run the shop?

Some would obviously be able to survive but most would collapse. There is a reason for the salary diparity.

In my office they been laying off the bread winners due to salary. Some been there have for 22yrs and knows the technology like the back of their hand.
When I worked at FAA they laid of the most knowledgeable person and a few months later on the evening news that FAA workers doesn't have any one who knows the core software. They were too embarrassed to say one black woman had all the knowledge in her head.
Since Obama scheduled to fade out 100k salary for contractors all hell is gonna broke loose next year when those knowledgeable people are laid off.

the 300k guys are revenue producing...and they only pay them a fraction of what them bill them out at anyway

the rule of thumb where i used to work was that billable staff was paid approx 1/3 of their billing rate..

that was years ago though..not sure if that has changed since.

Black or not, this type of person is actually quite dangerous to ANY organisation. Often long-serving employees use it as a &quot;tactic&quot; to make the company think that they cannot survive without them. This type of person is often less likely to adopt new methods of doing things, and become such dinosaurs that new systems are built around them, and they themselves become victims of their own folly.

I would NOT recommend it as a strategy to anyone. Best way to convince a company that you are an asset is to ALWAYS try to be the most up to date in your field.
