Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

For what?

He hasn't achieved anything yet and hasn't had time to.

Or is the prize in lieu of amazing achievements yet to come? It's like accepting an Oscar now for the Oscar-winning film you'll create soon.

The committee's nominations had to be sent in by February 1st, a mere 12 days after Obama officially became president. He did very little during that less than two weeks.

He shouldn't have accepted the Nobel (in my opinion) and should have told them to come back in a few years time.

I heard one T.V. news commentator say that they gave it to Barack because he is not George Bush. Kind of a parting "throwing of the shoe" at the former prez.

they gave it to him because they cannot award it posthumously...an him have a high chance of being bumped off before accomplishing anything noteworthy...

Actually Dahjah, I think it is only the &quot;promise&quot; of peace that justified to the committee the awarding of the Peace Prize to President Obama. I feel that the world has a more hopeful attitude towards the election of '08 than those of use who have endured the American (and yes <span style="font-weight: bold">CANADIAN </span>, as told to me by my Canadian grandfather) style of racism, both covert and open.

The winners of the Nobel Prize in economics were announced this morning, making those the last of the announcements from Oslo.

So the Swedes give the Nobel Prize for actual accomplishment in the Medical Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Economics, while the Norwegians give it, in this case, for the &quot;promise&quot; of some accomplishment?
