Sections of Clarendon have been without power since before midday Sunday because of a fire at the Jamaica Public Service's Parnassus Substation in the parish.
The company says the the fire which was caused by theft at substation has left some 18,000 JPS customers without electricity.
The situation developed after oil was stolen from a transformer located in the Parnassus substation Saturday night.
The JPS says the theft of the oil had resulted in an interruption in the power supply Saturday.
This power outage lasted until Sunday morning, following replacement of the oil the transformer being energized.
However, the damage suffered by the removal of the oil from the transformer caused an internal fault which resulted in a fire on the transformer today.
JPS Corporate Communications Officer, Ruthlyn Johnson says the company is making every effort to have the situation corrected and the power supply restored.
The JPS says it is now carrying out work at the plant and power is expected to be restored to the affected areas by 8 o' clock Sunday night.
The company says it is in collaboration with the police, as it continues to carry out investigations into the incident.
JPS is offering a substantial reward to anyone who can provide information leading up to the arrest of the perpetrators of this crime.
