The Stop Murder Music campaign was launched in July 2004 by OutRage. In the year that followed, over a hundred dancehall concerts were cancelled in Europe and North America. In February 2005, a deal was reach with the three main dancehall record labels: they would no longer promote music that call for the killing of gays and lesbians. Two years later, a contract named the 'Reggae Compassionate Act' was made available so dancehall artists that wanted to move on with their homophobic past could be able to perform in Europe and North America without any cancellations. In the spring of 2007, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Capleton and Buju Banton agreed to sign the Reggae Compassionate Act.
