Thats another thing...why in the hell would someone design a place where there is no protective barrier between a speeding locomotive and people. Biggaview the barriers you are talking about are very rare on commuter lines/subway systems--- maybe not so for where this accident occured but I can tell you in the NY metro area there is no barrier that opens between teh platform and tracks.

perhaps its because I live in a big city with so many distractions around me but I tend to be highly aware of my surroundings at all times. when I am out with my daughter it is as if nothing else exists and my focus is pretty much on her and my immediate surroundings.
