FREAKY SENIOR HELD IN NAKED DRAMA

The St Catherine police are investigating a case where an elderly man is alleged to have entered a young woman's house, hid under her bed and later woke her from her sleep while posing naked.

THE STAR heard that the 62-year-old man, of Jeffery Town in the parish, was arrested on Thursday evening and may be charged over the weekend, after a report was made by the 21-year-old complainant.

The woman and the man are said to live at the same premises, a tenement yard in the community.

The woman reportedly left for work earlier in the day and returned home sometime after 7 p.m. She is said to have fallen asleep but woke up when someone tapped her on the shoulder.

It is alleged that when she opened her eyes she was shocked to see the elderly man standing naked in front of her.

The woman is said to have screamed and her neighbours rushed to her 'rescue'.

It is further said that the man simply took up his clothes and walked away to his house.

The police were subsequently alerted and it is said that the man confessed to the police that he hid under the woman's bed.

Further allegations are that the man told the police that; "He did it because he was in love with the lady ... . He said her grill was left open so he went in and hid under her bed until she got home and went to sleep," Corporal Alvin Clarke of the St Catherine South police told THE STAR.

Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds said the days of prostitutes soliciting sex on the Port Henderson Road, popularly called 'Back Road', will soon come to an end.

Mayor Hinds made the disclosure on the heels of a joint police-military operation at the busy entertainment hub in the wee hours of last Saturday morning, where 39 women, believed to be prostitutes, and 33 men were arrested.

Mayor Hinds said the Portmore Municipal Council is in dialogue with Cannock Chase, a countryside district, located in Staffordshire, England, where a partnership has been kindled and a way forward brokered for 'Back Road' to offer clean entertainment for patrons.

"I will support any initiative by the police to clean up Port Henderson Road, my dream is for that area to become a tourism product," Mayor Hinds said, adding that talks with the Tourism Product Development Company Limited have been fruitful.

"I want to put in sleeping policemen on the thoroughfare and reduce traffic speed to 10-15 miles per hour. I want that stretch of roadway to be an official hip strip, where friends and families can have a drink and walk the streets without being harassed by women loitering the roads half naked. We want craftsmen and artists to set up shops in that area so we can lure tourists to Portmore. Clubs and businesses will have to regularise their operations," the mayor warned.

The Portmore police, in the meantime, said they will continue to monitor the area, which over time has been overwhelmed by commercial sex workers and wanted men from not only Portmore but from the Corporate Area and other parts of Jamaica.

There have been a string of incidences that plagued the area. In January 2007, guest houses and hotels were raided by police and 17 alleged commercial sex workers were arrested.

Back Road was popular for the British Link-up show, put on by Yvonne 'Lena British' Reid at La Roose nightclub, but that was discontinued at that location after two shooting incidents. The club's name was changed by the proprietors to Livewire Sports Bar and Grill, but that did not change the bloody trail that seems to follow the Back Road premises.

Four men, including two brothers, were killed and another man injured at the nightclub last July.

The dead included Ricardo 'Bully' Thomas, who was the proprietor of La Roose, his brother Kirk, both of Charlemont Drive, David Wisdom of Lindale Avenue and Andrew Walker, also called 'Mampy Zeeks', of August Town, all in St Andrew.

In March, 41-year-old Clifton Reid was shot dead and six others, including a woman, shot and injured during a gunfight at a British Link Up 'unity' dance at the same venue. Reid was a member of the Lincoln Road-based Black Roses Crew.

In 2003, police shot five persons at a dance at the same venue. Police insisted that they went to enforce the Noise Abatement Act, but the patrons refuted the police's claim, stating that the officers attempted to extort money from the sound operators. The BSI was drawn into the controversy.

Also on that strip in April 2007, police were accused of beating Dr Jepthah Ford, proprietor of the Fun Citi property, otherwise called Port Henderson Beach. He intervened in a dispute between his sisterand police officers and was reportedly beaten and had to seek medical attention.

They can be seen at various dancehall events skimpily dressed. But while they seem very appealing to the naked eye, they are ambassadors of enhancing the looks of various company products.

For years companies have been using these females or 'promotional girls', as a means of improving on its brand name products.

These females, whose duties are to meet and greet different patrons, but in a more seductive way, is just one of the marketing strategies being utilized in modern day.

Senior managers, Gary Dixon and Chris Hardie from popular beverage giants Magnum Tonic Wine and Coca Cola respectively believe more corporate companies are latching onto the move.

Dixon, who serves as the roots-drink's brand manager, said the use of 'promotional girls' adds value to the product's appeal but it's not something outstanding.

"We do believe that they add some value, and as you know we (Magnum) go for that sex appeal. People will always like to see something good. It impacts on us but it's one of the driving sponsorship forces, as we couldn't single-handedly depend on that avenue," Dixon said.

It could be said that most men find these females as easy sex targets and would, at times, throw demeaning remarks at them. And Dixon admitted that he was aware of this situation, but said the girls are adequately prepared with security measures and have to participate in a mental training session prior to an event.

He says, "What we do is analyse each event. If there is an event which already has security, we don't necessarily provide one. The most important thing is that we always choose our girls well. We do role play, bring them in and present different scenarios to see how they would react and it works."

Hardie, Coca Cola's country manager, said special plans are made in advance depending on the magnitude of an event.

"It depends on the size of the event. Shows like Sumfest and ATI (Appleton Temptation Aisle) are big events, which the girls play an important role in," he said.

The ladies are paid according to their hours of work. Also it's not a full-time paid profession, so most girls use it as a job on the side.

Kizzy, 20, who works for the brand Magnum, disclosed that the income received helps towards other bills which she is unable to meet with her regular job.
