MEN DRESS AS GIRLS TO ROB - Cops warn of cross-dressing thieves
Men walking on the streets at nights should pay extra caution to the women they approach or who approach them; they may actually be male thieves on the hunt.
In a developing trend, male criminals are disguising themselves as women before committing robberies, THE WEEKEND STAR has found.
Checks revealed that at least four cases took place in the last two weeks. Two of the cases occurred in sections of the Corporate Area, one in Clarendon and the other in Manchester.
male victims
All of the victims were males and thought their robbers were women until hearing them speak and brandishing guns.
Corporal Devon Young of the Manchester police said in the case committed at Bigwoods in the parish, the victim afterwards told investigators he had even approached and complimented the individual on being sexy.
Little did he know he would eventually be relieved of $5,000, his cellphone and also slapped across the face after expressing his disgust at being robbed.
sexy woman
"There was one case where a man saw what he thought was a sexy woman but was really a thief. He saw the person in a long skirt, and blouse about 11 p.m on the road in the community and was robbed and hit after making his approach," the Corporal said. The incidents in the Corporate Area reportedly took place last Monday and Thursday along Maxfield Avenue, St Andrew and Slipe Road, Kingston respectively.
Similar to the incident in Manchester, these victims were also robbed of cash and cellphones.
Detective Corporal Michael Patterson of the Area Four police said: "I have heard stories of men dressing like women to commit shootings and murders, but this is new."
It is reported that last Monday, a 23-year-old man was held up and robbed at gunpoint as he walked along Maxfield Avenue about 9 p.m. A blackberry cellphone and $2,000 was reportedly taken from him.
The man gave his attacker's description as a person in tight-fitting jeans, blouse, slippers and carrying a handbag.
The Slipe Road incident on Thursday was the same. The victim was approached at a similar time and the attacker was similarly clad except he had on 'girly' sneakers.
accomplice
The robber was, however, said to have worked with an accomplice who stayed across the road and watched while the robbery was being done. The two then fled the scene on a motorcycle.
When contacted, other police sources said they suspect that the criminals are following this trend in order to prevent unwanted police attention and to quickly attract their victims.
