ARMED TEEN GIRLS SCARE RESIDENTS
Four teenage girls, collectively known as the 'Shoot Dem' gang, have residents in the Culloden community and surrounding areas in Westmore-land living in fear.
Just last week, THE WEEKEND STAR broke a story about men posing as women and committing armed robberies. However, these women are the real deal and based on reports from the police, have become notorious.
The girls are said to be linked to at least eight cases of robbery, three shootings, one stabbing and a number of assaults, all said to have occurred in the past three weeks.
Detective Corporal Ainsley Douglas of the Trelawny police, said the girls attended school together. The eldest of the gang is reportedly a 19-year-old and tomboy who has been that way since high school. The others are said to be at least 17-years-old.
The police also noted that the girls were popular during their high school years and all reportedly left their family homes after graduating and are currently of no fixed address.
"These girls are dangerous ... Based on what we know, there are about four of them who are involved in criminal acts and have been friends for years now," the detective said.
Recently, a 24-year-old man was shot and injured after he was robbed of $8,000 as he made his way home from work.
demanded cash
Reports are that two Fridays ago, about 9 p.m., the man was walking along the roadway when he was approached by two women who immediately pulled a gun and demanded cash. The man was shot after failing to comply with their demands. Before escaping the scene the women went through his pockets and took the money.
Last Wednesday, another man was shot and injured in a similar scenario. He too failed to fork out cash which was demanded and was subsequently shot and injured.
Detective Corporal Douglas said the victims' descriptions of the attackers were the same.
Apart from robberies, the girls are said to have taken part in a number of beatings of persons whom they have labelled as informers and urge them to flee the community.
Among these victims is an 18-year-old girl who was attacked and stabbed after being accused of being involved with a policeman, THE WEEKEND STAR learnt.
The police did not shed much light on the incident but noted that the girl at the centre of that attack has since left the community.
A resident who admitted being afraid of the girls said people have chosen to remain indoors when it gets dark because of their activities.
"Dem a rob and shoot people, dem a beat people and a tell dem fi leave, wi nuh kno weh dem ago do next...Wi cyaa manage dem ting deh roun ya so, wi nuh use to di violence, nobody not even waa walk a road a nightime, " one resident said.
The police said that effort is being put in place to nab the girls and they are asking for the help of those who may have information which can assist in investigations.
