Rihanna speaks about Brown attack

The singer reveals Brown was her "first big love"
Singer Rihanna is to talk for the first time about being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in an interview being screened in the US this week.

The 21-year-old will tell ABC's Diane Sawyer what happened on the night of the attack in February, a statement from the TV network said.

Brown was sentenced to five years probation and six months community service in August over the attack.

<span style="font-weight: bold">The interview will be screened on Good Morning America on Thursday and Friday</span>.

ABC said the singer reveals Brown was &quot;definitely my first big love&quot;, but adds: &quot;This happened to me - it can happen to anyone.&quot;

Rihanna was left bloody and bruised in the attack on the night of the Grammys.

During the interview she also talks about growing up in Barbados, her family life and how she has been over the past nine months since the assault.

Brown was interviewed by CNN's Larry King in September where he said he still loved Rihanna and was in shock over his actions.

RICHMOND, Virginia — In recent weeks, Chris Brown has been working to get his career back on track after his February altercation with Rihanna, with a new music video, a performance at a New York radio festival and a &quot;Fan Appreciation&quot; concert tour, an album due next month and a series of interviews talking about the altercation and what he has learned from it.

But many questions still remain.

What caused the singer to lash out against his former girlfriend in the first place? Why has he tweeted fan-made photo galleries of the two of them and released music inspired by her? What does he think about, nine months later, when he recalls that fateful night?

Chris Brown discusses all of these matters, and takes a hard look back on what happened that night, during the MTV News special &quot;Chris Brown: The Interview,&quot; which airs Friday, November 6, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

&quot;My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, 'Why did it happen?' &quot; he told MTV News correspondent Sway during an hour-long, one-on-one interview that took place in Brown's native Virginia. &quot;Like, 'What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?' That's what I'm thinking with myself. That's what my thoughts are, basically, now.

&quot;It's like, 'How do we get past it? How do you, Chris' — talking to myself — 'how do you go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistakes, turn it into a positive and help other people with the situation, and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?' &quot;

In February, Brown stunned many when reports emerged about his physical confrontation with Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The singer left Rihanna bruised and battered, and later turned himself into police for questioning. Brown was released and as the police report, a photo of Rihanna taken after the fight, and court appearances mounted, family members, fans, and friends of each were shocked by what happened between the pair.

In June, Brown struck a plea deal that allowed him to avoid jail time, but under the terms he was levied with a hefty community labor service term, in addition to weekly therapy sessions he was ordered to attend for one year. Brown was also issued a five-year stay-away order that essentially ended any relationship with Rihanna, as the two were legally instructed to avoid each other and any communication between them could result in him going to prison.

As both superstars attempt to move on and restart their careers while rebuilding their lives, the world is watching and waiting for answers.

It was later determined that it was 2 women who leaked the photos of her beaten to a near pulp face.

I can’t recall if it was from the medical staff or the police station but, it was 2 women.

In an interview on “Good Morning America” Thursday,<span style="font-weight: bold"> <span style="color: #FF0000">Rihanna said she was ashamed that she returned to Brown after the attack, saying “that’s embarrassing — that’s the type of person that I fell in love with. So far in love, so unconditional, that I went back</span>.</span>”

She also told &quot;GMA&quot; that she realizes going back is a normal reaction, saying, “It’s completely normal to go back. You start lying to yourself. I’ll say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence: ‘Don’t react off of love.”’

(CNN) -- For women dealing with domestic violence, singer Rihanna has a bit of advice: &quot;Forget about love.&quot;

&quot;Come out of the situation and look at it for what it really is,&quot; she advised during an interview on &quot;Good Morning America&quot; on Thursday. &quot;Love is so blind.&quot;

Yes, that wall of silence Rihanna built after being beaten in February by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown has finally crumbled.

Her refusal to speak about what happened the night of the Grammy Awards in February -- a leaked photo later revealed Rihanna had been shockingly battered -- was out of shame, she told Diane Sawyer on &quot;Good Morning America.&quot;

&quot;There are a lot of women who experienced what I did, but not in the public, so [that] made it really difficult,&quot; she said. &quot;I just thought 'Oh my God,' here goes my little bit of privacy. Nobody wants anybody to know, and here I am, the whole world knowing.&quot;

That photo, allegedly distributed by two Los Angeles Police Department officers, made a bad situation worse, she told Glamour magazine.

&quot;It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody,&quot; the songstress said. &quot;I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it's my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women.&quot;

&quot;I didn't want people to think that I fell in love with that person,&quot; she said. &quot;That's embarrassing that that's the type of person I fell so far in love with, so unconditionally, that I went back.&quot;

People put her on a pedestal &quot;with all these expectations,&quot; she said, &quot;but I'm a human being, and I'm not perfect.&quot; Now, she can admit it was a mistake to give the relationship a second chance.

Nearly 10 months have passed since her secret came tumbling out for the world to see, and Rihanna said it was her fans who helped her finally speak up about domestic violence.

&quot;It's pretty natural for that to be the first reaction; to [want] to go back,&quot; she told Sawyer in the interview. &quot;The minute the physical wounds go away, you want to go back. [But] when I realized that my selfish decision for love could result [in] some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part,&quot; she said with tears in her eyes.

&quot;These are young girls, and I didn't realize how much an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened,&quot; the singer admitted. &quot;It takes a woman eight or nine times before she leaves, and ... that's not what I want to teach people. It was a wake-up call, big time.&quot;

&quot;I have grown up a lot since my last album. It's a place she reached with the help of her support system: her family. Her mother, she said, gave her and her younger brother &quot;the tools to survive&quot; as they grew up in an average home in a humble neighborhood in Barbados.

&quot;I would never have dreamed that my career would be this successful,&quot; she said. &quot;But [my mom] made us feel anything was possible and instilled in me such confidence.&quot;

That kind of confidence has helped the singer come forward about a very personal issue.
