At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base's public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.
The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said.
NBC affiliate KCEN in Waco reported that the second suspect may be holed up in a building on the post.
The base was reportedly on lockdown. Two nearby school districts were also being locked down.
Fort Hood is adjacent to Killeen, and 60 miles northeast of Austin. The sprawling complex is home to at least 4,929 active duty officers and 45,414 enlisted. Civilian employees total nearly 9,000.

The shooting at Fort Hood, Texas was caused by terrorists who were disguised as military basemen and and stole uniforms to get onto base with fake id's and other information. The numbers wounded are over 30 , and some of those are critically wounded with no reports yet from doctors that are expected to make it to full recovery.
In the meantime, the terrorists who stole military uniforms to strike Fort Hood, Texas , have attacked the United States. This is a terrorist attack, and people on the military in lockdown are ordered to be on the lookout for these individuals as they had broke through what security detail was in place ; by scouting things out ahead of time to see the schedules for breaks of guards on duty while they had planned out this entire operation weeks beforehand.
So with this terrorist attack on United States soil, as information comes in from my sources and calls of people reporting what they see or heard .

you better hope it is right.
And it is a soldier.
At least if it is, that would be likely a case of mental illness.
If It us a terrorist, at will be a case of lax security.
The latter would be a much worse situation, that if it is soldiers..

FORT HOOD, Texas - The U.S. Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.
Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. <span style="font-size: 14pt"><span style="font-weight: bold">He says they are all U.S. soldiers. </span></span>
The shooting began around 1:30 p.m. Cone says that all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.
He says the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.Comment

Jeff Sadosky, a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, said the senator had been told that Malik Nadal Hasan, who has been identified as a the shooting suspect at Fort Hood, was upset about his upcoming deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Officials say a shooting suspect at Fort Hood has been identified as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, who they say was an Army mental health professional.
A law enforcement official said Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
A defense official speaking on condition of anonymity says Hasan was a mental health professional — an Army psychologist or psychiatrist.
It was not known whether he was treating people at the base.
Officials says it was not clear what Hasan’s religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to the Islamic faith at some point.
