i consider the fact that they grew to adulthood with life, limb, education &amp; careers &amp; money can be described as 'success'...
especially when you take it in context...so many of the entertainers from the 60's &amp; 70's ended up strung out or broke or many other bad stories...
many black youth from those days ended up statistics...
for raising 9 children that avoided these pifalls to ME is a success in itself; as adults they have their own choices to make, and blaming things on mommy &amp; daddy gets old real fast when you have children to raise;
not implying JJ was some kind of angel- my only premise is that the overwhelmingly negative portrayal of him in the media &amp; the public is disingenuous at best...
how great a father was MJ?
one can criticize him for taking drugs and dropping out when his young kids needed him the most;
in the sense of parenting one can even argue that JJ did a better job than MJ who risked his presence to his children by tekin juggs;

they don't owe me a thing however i have seen parents who bend over backwards for children and those kids are ingrates fling di madda inna nursing home, I'm not obligated to my parents however, because of the way momma raised me I will move the end of the earth to mk sure she's ok, the other one well him can guh live awnda chicken coop for all i care

So basically because they didnt die and they have some dough that is success. Are you denying the effects on an indiviuals adult life of their youthful experiences? Not following media or anyone on these guys. I personally dont define success by money alone because it depends on what your needs are ... with all thier money they are still unhappy and same money causing more unhappiness even after MJ dead an gone... Joe put him pickney them in the spotlight so he is not only responsible for their lack of a normal childhood but the media tearing them down... any way it was michael money do as he saw fit so joe fi go siddung.

if a parent's ultimate goal is to impart the child with the tools to make a living, then he did a great job- since this singing &amp; dancing is how they made their bread;
if i am a carpenter now and all my father taught me was carpentry, all i can do is be grateful that i am now making a living with a skill taught to me by my father;
how many black youth are wasting away with no skills &amp; no job options right now as we speak...
it's not so bad to teach your kids a skill...just western hype &amp; media want us to believe a parent's role is to be a softie friend-like person to your kids- to the point they can order you around and call police on you...and black people are buying into this crap;
again i don't condone abuse...but give some credit where it is due

i said it is a <span style="font-weight: bold">form</span> of success that they made it to adulthood safe &amp; sound &amp; with the tools to make a good living;
they could have also been emotional successes and dead broke...or they could have been both;
but many of them seem fine to me...out of 9 siblings you think some wouldn't have some issues?

Everyone has his or her own level of virtue. An outstanding person in ordinary society and a cultivator can reach very high realm through self-cultivation.

In real life, because of predestined relationships through many generations of reincarnation, people have difficulty avoiding being maliciously humiliated, threatened, defamed, criticised or envied by others. How one deals with humiliation depends on one's level of virtue.

According to historical records, Fu Bi, a famous official in the Song dynasty, had a magnificent level of tolerance even when he was young. When people cursed him, he turned a deaf ear to it and devoted all his attention to do his work. It seemed like he didn't hear anything.

Once a very ferocious person cursed him, even though it was totally uncalled for. People beside him said to him: &quot;He is cursing you!&quot; Fu Bi gave them a pleasant smile and said: &quot;I am afraid he is cursing some other person.&quot; People beside him said again: &quot;He is calling your name.&quot; Fu Bi said: &quot;There are many people with the same name in this world. It's not necessarily me.&quot; When he heard that answer, the person felt ashamed and stopped cursing.

If Fu Bi had responded to the cursing with tit for tat and cursed back at the person, the situation would have been aggravated or even escalated to fighting.

With a calm mind, he made the person's anger vanish and caused the situation to be resolved with compassion.

People who can endure and tolerate others must have a high moral ability. If one cannot tolerate others, one lacks forbearance. The most difficult thing in this human world is to endure humiliation without explaining.

There was a story about Sakyamuni: He encountered envy and cursing from a certain person for some time. But Sakyamuni was perfectly calm and kept silent and devoted his time to saving people.

When, finally, the person was done with his cursing, Sakyamuni asked him with a smile: &quot;My friend, when a person gives something to another person and if the person refuses to accept it, then who shall own the thing?&quot; That person answered offhandedly: &quot;Of course it belongs to the giver.&quot; Sakyamuni said: &quot;That's right. You have been cursing me until now. If I don't accept your cursing, then who will receive the cursing?&quot; Upon hearing the wise and compassionate questions from Sakyamuni, the person was speechless and never dare to curse Sakyamuni again.

When dealing with personal insults, few people are able to deal with it with an unperturbed mind like Fu Bi and Sakyamuni.

If we calmly ponder this, we'll realise that it is unwise to deal with such things with an &quot;eye for an eye&quot; attitude and curse back. If one faces curses with a charming smile and answers them in a calm voice, he will certainly have the bearing of the wise.

When you respond to cursing in an even-tempered and good-humoured way, it is the wisdom of a cultivator.

Of course, an ordinary person who doesn't cultivate will never have the wisdom of a great enlightened being.

I love the story, but me nah like Joe Jackson, so I must say, I agree with you in a way. He thought he was such a good parent in fact that he went outside of his marriage to get some more kids, as other children by other women also needed his excellent ------yummie--------and his parenting skills for set of kid #2 (9 not enough?). (and the originals seem to feel he treated this outside one with more love and affection, maybe he was too old to beat them by then).

No two people not even twins are the same. They can each receive the same treatment but react in very different ways. Michael came across to me as a very delicate individual emotionally. Therefore the strictness/work ethic/'abuse' meted by his father probably was the cause of his escape to the childlike place he created for himself - resentful of a lost youth, resentful of the 'punishment' he received as a child. The strictness/work ethic/'abuse' for some of his siblings was the motivator that provided them the strength, and determination to reach for their own personal goals and therefore attain their own personal success in adulthood. Just a thought..

On a side note did anyone notice the look that Katherine gives Joe at 1.11 in the video...?

I, for one, can't recall giving any definition on parenting anywhere.

What I have often maintained here or wherever is that parents usually rear their families in the best way they know how to do so.
Some get it... some don't...
but the bottom line is that none of us is in any general position to beat up on someone
especially a parent who helped his children...with all his imperfections.
We have all been helped...what we do with that help is the true measure of our character...and our present standing as parents.
I don't know Joe's early background, but he certainly produced some children who did far 'better' than some I see from more promising surroundings.
