AT LEAST six persons were shot, three fatally, by gunmen, between Sunday night and yesterday morning, following separate incidents in the Kingston East Police Division.
Among the victims is a 67-year-old farmer of Shooter's Hill, who police identified as Roger Johnson, alias 'Bruk Up'. Johnson was discovered yesterday at approximately 6 a.m. in a burnt-out motor car near his pig farm in a remote farming area of Shooter's Hill, St Andrew.
According to residents, the pig farmer had gone to his farm to tend to his animals. His charred remains were later found inside the vehicle. The police believe he was shot at least three times.
Johnson's death adds to the serious crime problem the East Kingston Police Division is facing.
According to a report from the Constabulary Communication Network, five persons were shot on Windward Road Sunday night.
Drive-by shooting
Police reports said the shooting took place about 7:55 p.m. The victims were standing at the entrance of a community known as Bower Bank when a silver motor vehicle with five men aboard drove up and opened fire on the group. The vehicle then sped away.
Those dead have been identified as Dwayne Smith, 32, and Alrick Jarrett, 19, while injured are three other persons ages 38, 34 and 17.
"It was only a few days ago we were here in Shooter's Hill searching for ganja fields, and now we are here waiting on the pathologist to do an on-the-spot post-mortem," the police said.
