There has been a long tradition in Jamaica of a gradation in colour, where darker the worst.. But there are overlays of class.. with economic success has led to an acceptace of the status quo...

An interesting phenomena is the poor whites of Barbadoes.... interesting in the economic phenomena that is Barbadoes there seems to be fewer of these than twenty years ago..

In Guanzhong or formerly Canton alto of Jamaican Chinese came from.. and I mentioned I found out that Jamaican born chinese were stranded where they sent after the chinese invasion and after the communist victory..

An interesting comment I heard in the last month was before the communist victory there was 438 identifiable ethnic groups in China.. immidiatelt after the communist victory there were 58.. the nuymber came from some numeric connection in the forbidden city... A chinese experience should be looked at is after the nationalist loss Sun Yat Sen that revolutionary once supported by the Soviets decamped to Taiwan.. they immidiately made the native Taiwanese second class citizens despite being in the majority....in fact I beleive there was trouble in Taipei associated with the last electionn partially due to a resurgance of the Taiwanese nationalism...

I have spent time in Guanzhong a few years ago consulting... I had no issues however I was protected by passport and the fact I had the economic werher with all to live in a compound have a driver and all the services nessesary paid for...

I have long doubted the so called revolutionary brotherhood associated with the middle kingdom but that was long denied by the left hiding behind the hacknied cliches associated with the left much like the denial sounds of rascism in castro cuba in the 70's....There is an important document to examine that is easily accessible the ever popular "Wild Swans" where the delightful Dr Chang tells us what happened when she met black men for the first time and the offical line that was taught...

A long time ago in MM airport Lagos.. I was sitting at a bar having a fianl guiness before leaving.. Across the bar was a redneck yanki.. There was a bar man serving drinks and bantering as all good bar men in africa do... A chinese guy came in his command of english was lets say challenging.. He began to shout at the bar man... The guy was calm.. The order was sorted.. The Nigerian told the chinese fella the price.. He was called a theif and the usual by the chinese guy... The bar keep pull back the drinks... The Chinese fella threw the money at the bar keep.. The red neck got up and decked the chinese fella...

In fact, the short, black men the festival celebrates are one of the most ancient types of modern humans on this planet and their kin still survive in Asia today. They are said to be diminutive Africoids and are variously called Pygmies, Negritos and Aeta. They are found in the Philippines, northern Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra in Indonesia and other places.

Chinese historians called them "black dwarfs" in the Three Kingdoms period (AD 220 to AD 280) and they were still to be found in China during the Qing dynasty (1644 to 1911). In Taiwan they were called the "Little Black People" and, apart from being diminutive, they were also said to be broad-nosed and dark-skinned with curly hair.

After the Little Black People -- and well before waves of Han migrations after 1600 -- came the Aboriginal tribes, who are part of the Austronesian race. They are thought to have come from the Malay Archipelago 6,000 years ago at the earliest and around 1,000 years ago at the latest, though theories on Aborigine migration to Taiwan are still hotly debated. Gradually the Little Black People became scarcer, until a point about 100 years ago, when there was just a small group living near the Saisiyat tribe.

The original, first, native, primitive inhabitants of China were black Africans who arrived there about 100,000 years ago and dominated the region until a few thousand years ago when the Mongol advance into that region began. These Africans who fled the Mongol onslaught can still be found in South East Asia and the Pacific Islands misnomered Nigritos or "small black men." The Agta of the Philippines is one such example. Indeed archeology, forensic and otherwise confirm that China's first two dynasties, the Xia and the Ch'ang/Sh'ang, were largely Black African with an Australoid, called "Madras Indian" or "Chamar" in Trinidad, present in small percentages. These Africans would carry an art of fighting developed in the Horn of Africa into China which today we call martial arts: Tai Chi, Kung fu and Tae Kwon Do. Even the oracle of the I-Ching came with a later African group, the Akkadians of Babylon.

Around 500 BCE an African living in India called Gautama would establish a religion called Buddhism which would come to dominate Chinese thought. Any one who is in doubt should consult Geoffrey Higgins's Anacalypsis, Albert Churchward's Origin and development of Religions, Gerald Massey's Egypt the Light of the World, Riunoko Rashidi's African Presence in Early Asia and J A Roger's Sex and Race Vol 1. Many Africans survived the Mongol invasion into the twentieth century only to be exterminated by Chairman Mao's programme of Cultural cleansing. Under this programme millions of Africans and Afro-Asians were killed from 1951-1956. Contribute we still did, giving the People's Republic of China its first Chief Minister in the name of Eugene Chen, a Trinidadian of George Street, Port-of-Spain, who was of an African mother and a Chinese father.

For further reading on this individual one should consult J A Rogers' World's Great Men of Colour Vol I. So next time the word China or Chinese is mentioned remember that Africans played a pivotal role in launching what is called Chinese civilisation, if such a thing exists.

Let's not kid ourselves about the reality of how the Chinese view "blacks". Let me hasten to say, <span style="font-weight: bold">"All other races believe that they are superior to the "black race" because that was the prevailing theory espoused by the "white races" and the institution of Slavery at a time in our History.</span> So it should not be surprising to anyone here that the Chinese are like the rest.. For me, personally, I may not like it, but I expect the possibility that any member of any "non-black" racial group will harbour those feelings of "misplaced superiority". That expectation insulates me from being shocked or disappointed, and so it's easily brushed aside with pity on them when it's directed toward me...

no, I am simply stating that Chinese participated in the eastern slave trade and castrated men.. because they feared outsiders.. they were Xenophobic and rascist.. I have not mentioned the orginal inhabitants of China as there is evidence that would support both African and European presence in the middle kingdom that predated the first empire.... I am simply staing that Chinese castrated black/ african slave by imperial law...

US President Barack Obama's recent visit to China put the spotlight on Chinese attitudes to black people. Many Chinese were shocked and disbelieving that America could elect a black president. Yet China is reaching out to Africa and the Caribbean as never before, investing billions of dollars in the countries of those regions through trade and aid. But are the Chinese any less racist than the traditional white colonialists?

I personally have visited China and Hong Kong on a number of occasions and I have always been treated with courtesy. But other black people that I know who have visited China have recounted how the Chinese stare at them in the street. Is this simple curiosity or is there an underlying hostility?
From the early eighties, when African students could study for free in Beijing, there have been reports of discrimination against Africans. Just before the Beijing Olympics stories of racism surfaced again, with blacks being denied entry to bars.
Recently a mixed-race Chinese girl (her father is black) who won a Chinese television talent show, Go! Oriental Angel, was shocked at the racist remarks that her victory triggered. Angry Internet users called her a "black chimpanzee" and called for all blacks in China to be deported. The talent show victor, 20-year-old Lou Jing, said, "It's sad. If I had a face that was half-Chinese and half-white, I wouldn't have gotten that criticism. Before the contest, I didn't realise these kinds of attitudes existed."
A Nigerian businessman who has lived in China for five years told the American newspaper, The Washington Post, "Chinese don't like Africans. They don't like black skin. China trying to embrace Africa is a political statement. The question is, 'How do they treat black people?'"
Other Africans living in China say that they often experience discrimination and police harassment.
Skin-whitening creams are very popular in China. It is a $100-million business. Chen Juan, a 27-year-old secretary, told the Washington Post, "For me, the whiter, the better. Being white means pretty. If someone looks too black, I feel they look countrified and like a farmer. Being white is prettier than being black. In my impression, black people, especially Africans, are not clean enough. To be frank, I just feel black people are too black. Definitely, I wouldn't consider having a black guy as my boyfriend even if he were rich."
Another 24-year-old girl said, "You know what they are doing here? They trade in drugs and girls. In their neighbourhood you can't go out in the street at night. Too dangerous. Could I marry an African? Have you gone mad? No, inter-racial marriages between Chinese and Africans hardly ever happen or never. With Europeans, that's a different story."
But just as the election of Barack Obama has challenged assumptions of black inferiority in America itself, it may have the same effect in far-off China.

I will say that more "whites" male or female will marry "blacks" more quickly than will Chinese, and that is understandable... Chinese considers themselves "near white" in more ways than one.. Let's face it, how many of us had real close friends that were Chinese? In high school there were a few who were very "friendly" and I reciprocated, but there was always a cultural divide and a jus so it go...

As a young man, I had a friend who was crazy over a Chinese girl he met and wanted us to go with him to meet her because she was so nice, We rented car, he fetched her, we picked up a couple of her fiends and took them to Cigani beach, a popular spot in those days.. We showed them a good time, suppressed the patwa, and was on our best behaviour. I was amused at his desire to go after her...

Bottomline is, culturally we are different and it will take years for co-mingling to take place which is already happening.. So what if they feel "superior" to us, they feel superior to the Indians, others for sure, and maybe secretely, the "whites"... We as "black" should feel "superior" as well, even though we haven't much to back it up. Mutual Respect is what we asked for and expect...

If that is what taking part in a riot amount to, I probably rioted in my dreams too.

my interest in dem has to do wid dem an di wholesales etc in Ja..true, dem transforming the landscape wid di building but u can tell dem attitude by one so so action...yes mi harp pon it but it is telling...

I just figure none of that really matters. For example, I don't think Europeans particularly "like" Chinese either. Yet when foreigners invest in China, the Chinese government insists upon and obtains technology transfer and job creation for the local workforce. End of story. No fuss and bother about what Europeans think of them, rather let's benefit from the relationship as much as possible.

We can't change people's thinking, nor can we change our color, but we can change our way of doing business. The latter affects the well-being of Africans and the diaspora more than disdain that others hold of African-ness.

It's all about <span style="font-size: 11pt"><span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'"><span style="color: #006600">M O N E Y</span></span></span>.
