i guarantee you can never quote me anywhere speaking about "pure black" as i know humanity is of one blood and no racial group can claim to be 'pure';

we've discussed this topic many times and i totally disagree that bob marley's status is because of skin tone;

the same people who make this argument are ignoring that he was the lead voice of the young wailers IN JAMAICA before he hit it big on the international market;
i always argue against the light-skin made bob marley big argument because I and I know marley was a prophet sent by the most high to carry out rastafari works...groomed by the mighty ras planno to come with word sound & power to wake up the children and set babylon on its heels;

it's total bull;

the true test is in the dance hall;

throw on 'natural mystic' or 'war' or 'draw bad card' in the dancehall and watch the crowd reaction...
i guarantee they are not dancing to his skin tone;

personally i love tosh & bunny wailer, but there is no one on the planet like bob marley;
he was a specific man sent for a specific work and it makes me shake my head when my own jamaican people can't see the greatness of this man; i'm outraged they would boil it down to skin tone...
marcus garvey also reached great heights as a jamaican- it was the power of his message, not his skin tone...j.a. rogers was a brilliant man, lightskinned, but never reached the fame of garvey; what's this skin color thing in everything?

this is our problem in jamaica- we never really check out the greatness of our teachers;
go in jamaica and ask the people how many have read the opinions & philosophies of marcus garvey and i guarantee you won't see many hands...ask them who is walter rodney you will see even less hands;
but we are quick to downgrade the accomplishments of our great ones...it's all connected as far as why we are so quick to kill each other...
the man is a legend who got shot and still went out to perform for jamaica 2 days later to a raging crowd who were not paying attention to his skin tone

all that said, marley's musicianship & lyricism is second to none on earth

Bob Marley's personae transcends skin shade. Bob is way bigger than that. For people to reduce a discussion of his work, personae, and purpose to this level is petty.

I never rated his band though: too lightweight. Bob needed something heavier, like The Aggravators or Roots Radics, which unfortunately arrived later on the scene.

Maybe that's why my favourite 'message' group is Wailing Soul. After they left Studio One they were backed by Style Scott, Flabba Holt and the rest.

No political correctness from me,lets call a spade a spade.In the former slave colonies, the lighter skin blacks were given preferential treatment, simply because they were the off spring of the slave masters.

This preferential treatment still applies to today's societies.Darker skin blacks are regarded as more sinister and violent.one have to look no further than the OJ Simpson case,where one of the major magazine in their zeal to make oj appear guilty made his picture<span style="font-weight: bold"> darker</span> than he was.

In my opinion obama benefited from been a mix race candidate also.That been said, Bob Marley was blacker than the blackest person in Jamaica and the world.He identified with Africans more than most blacks in the west.His music and his actions speaks for its self.
