The Jamaica Labour Party secured 50.1 per cent of the popular vote in Thursday's general election, compared to the People's National Party's 49.6 per cent.
Figures released by the Electoral Office of Jamaica on Friday morning show the JLP increased its voter turnout by more that 30,000, when compared to the 2011 General Election.
However, the total numbers for both parties remained close with only a 47 per cent voter turnout.
In addition, the JLP increased its votes by eight per cent this election while the PNP's turn out decreased by 6.6 per cent, compared to 2011.
The JLP on Thursday amassed 436,459 votes, compared to the People's National Party's 432,353.
The overall voter turnout saw 870,663 Jamaicans casting their ballots to elect the new government, from a voter's list of 1,824,000 eligible voters.
In 2011 the JLP attracted 405,920 voters, against the PNP's 464,064, a difference of 58,126 votes.
