At least one of the young girls reported missing under the Ananda Alert system in St Catherine, has been working as a prostitute in Port Henderson.
Business operators in Port Henderson say since the police began cracking down on prostitution in Port Henderson, the girl has not been visiting the strip as often.
They say she continues to visit the location at least twice a week.
It’s also believed that the girl is often joined by her friends who also engage in prostitution.
Up to September this year, 1,206 children were reported missing, with 676 confirmed as returning home, three killed, and more than 500 still unaccounted for.
Yesterday, The Gleaner informed the Children’s Registry of its findings.
While not willing to comment on the specific case, Betty Ann Blaine, convenor of children’s advocacy group Hear the Children’s Cry, said she was concerned about the number of young girls engaging in the sex trade.
Only recently, an early-morning operation by the police resulted in the arrest of 72 people in Port Henderson, many of them women believed to be prostitutes.
