What Makes You Proud to Be Jamaican?

What makes me proud? My family history--this is the most important when it comes to identity. I know where I come from. My people have done good things...and my strength, perseverance, intelligence, tenacity, creativity and spirituality have been inherited from a long line of folks who share my DNA. I'd like to have my DNA tested in order to pin point what ethnic tribes in Africa my family originated from. This is a life long dream...and I'm going to make it come true.

Who we are is in are identity and I have always felt that It's ok to give your culture some props once in a while...so, where's your pride? What makes you proud to be Jamaican?

Over di years mi bin digging into som ah mi friends, from odda island, background (through conversation), and discover dat many ah dem hav Jamaican roots (Grandfather, Grandmother, etc). However, it seems like dem ah try hide dat fact. If mi neva trace dem tree, while exchanging casual linkage, mi would neva hav known.

Deh man is getting on.. But his grasp of history and self has been on of the diefentiators to other nations....

I dont agreee with stuff he says but there are comments that he makes that are central to Jamaicaness though he would deny it as he believes it represents totally and soley the African diaspora....

To be honest the capletons and the rest are paroichial... I beleive that he was a man for the 80 and 90 like Bob was to the 60's and garvey was for the twenties and Howell was for the forties.. so who will take up the cause of developing and evolving Jamaican identity..

These are the individuals that make Jamaica unique... I cant see any similar in the US.. These guys asked the fundamental questions of who we are and how we evolve.. Yankis I feel never do that.. There is however a generational displacemnt as these thoughts become ossified as conventional thinking in Jamaica....but society moves on.... You cannot question Garvey for instance in Jamaica....

If we think that there is now a record that blesses and praises bleaching against the backdrop of these individuals place in society has shown that the ideal have shifted....
