MYSTERY 'SNIPER' TARGETS RESIDENTS - Metal balls used as bullets in attacks
Residents of some communities in Old Harbour, St Catherine are being plagued by an interesting sort of terrorist.
The residents told THE STAR that for the last three months, they have been scared to stay out on the streets at nights, for fear that they might become the predator's latest victim.
They said every evening between 6 and 7 p.m., for the last three months, a mysterious Townace drives through the community and its occupant fires metal balls from what is believed to be an air gun or bebe gun, at unsuspecting persons.
One resident of the High House community told THE STAR that he was hit in the shoulder about a month ago. He said, "Mi a walk pan di road an mi jus feel someting sting mi. Di ting chip off di whole a mi shoulder and it neva even did ketch mi fully cause a turn mi did a turn at the time." He said it soon became clear to residents that the incidents were becoming somewhat of a trend when they noticed an increase in the frequency of complaints.
He also told THE STAR that some victims have found 'spent shells', which they describe as "sorta roundish metal balls, about an inch long."
Another victim, Michael, told THE STAR that he too was injured a few weeks ago. He said, "I was on the road when a Townace drive pass and I don't know what dem have a fire, but dem hit mi hard wid it inna mi back. All three day di swelling nuh go down."
He said about 10 or 11 residents had been attacked. He said since the attacks, residents have been doing their best to leave the streets at nights. "Wi try avoid di road innuh, cause dem tings deh a iron and dem can lick out yu yeye," he said. The men also told THE STAR that women were also being targeted in the attacks.
The residents told THE STAR that from their own investigations and stake-outs they have found out that the culprit or culprits travel in a white Townace. They, however, added that their attempts to nab the 'snipers' have failed.
Though the residents claim that they reported the incidents to the police, Deputy Superintendent Duetress Foster-Gardner, officer in charge of the Old Harbour police, said THE STAR was the first to bring the happenings to her attention. She, however, urged the residents to make formal reports so investigations could begin.
