Cop body guards gunmen

More information has been forthcoming about Wednesday's running gun battle involving two sets of gunmen and an off duty policeman in Clarendon.
Police sources say the dramatic events are the result of in-fighting among members of the Boston Gang which operates out of Portmore, St. Catherine.
The involvement of an off-duty policeman in the shooting has raised more questions as details trickle in.
A source in the St. Catherine South Police Division told RJR News that on Wednesday, alleged Boston Gang members Christopher Greenwood otherwise called "Blacks" and Anthony Riley were accompanied by the off-duty Special Constable to the Clarendon Circuit Court where they appeared on gun charges.
The source says the three were traveling back to St. Catherine after the court session when they were shot at by a group of men in another car just as they exited the Old Iron Bridge in May Pen.
One of the shotters has been fingered by investigators as another member of the Boston Gang.
The two groups of men reportedly traded bullets as both vehicles sped along the road from May Pen, Clarendon to Lionel Town in St. Catherine.
However, the car with the policeman aboard reportedly crashed into a ditch near the Dawkins Pen crossing.
Greenwood or "Blacks" who had been shot, was pronounced dead at hospital.
He had been implicated in the shooting death of Wayne Topping, a taxi operator based in Portmore earlier this year.
The Special Constable and Mr. Riley were taken into custody.
The officers from the May Pen Police Station and other policemen pursued the vehicle carrying the gunmen into the Salt River area where another shoot-out reportedly ensued.
One of the gunmen escaped while it is not known what happened to the other two men in the vehicle.
Three guns, an M16 rifle and two pistols were allegedly taken from the two vehicles.
Efforts to get an official update from Superintendent Dayton Henry, head of the Clarendon Police were unsuccessful.

In the meantime, another member of the Boston Gang is in hospital under police guard after he was shot and injured in Waterford, Portmore in St. Catherine Wednesday night in what the police have said was a reprisal attack for Wednesday morning's shooting in Clarendon.
Rohan Gentles, otherwise called "Lickshot" of Waterford, who has been identified as the man who eluded the Clarendon Police Wednesday morning, was shot by a group of men in Waterford hours later as he walked in the community.
He is believed to be the trigger-man who shot and killed fellow gang member, Christopher Greenwood alias "Blacks" in Clarendon.
The police are reportedly bracing for further violence in Waterford against the background of Wednesday night's attack.
