Would you go?

The team I work with are planning a holiday dinner (the company party will be on the 22nd) just for the 17 of us.

Two weeks ago, them sent around a menu for the place them going and asked for everyone to select them meal.

On Thurs. them sent to each person the total cost for each.

Note, one person on the team suggested that we all go to this restaurant because he knows the manager etc.

Me didn't know that we were picking up our own tabs and since me wasn't going to drink or eat much, me was planning to go for the atmosphere and hanging out.

Now me not interested in going to a restaurant (not of choice) and pay over $50 for a meal me not going to enjoy.

Would you go anyway or would you cancel?

I personally would cancel.

If you are to pick up your own tab that should have been made crystal clear from the get go. Not something u are finding out after you picked your meal. If it is a matter that the company cannot afford the tab then they should give their employees the option to participate...remember say the bonus checks arent coming if they cant splurge on a Christmas dinner

Otherwise, the company should pick up the tab, ie. treat the employees at Chirstmas time since it is only once a year.

If it wasn't a place I chose to eat at then yes, I would probably just cancel.
I would use the $50 and go somewhere I would enjoy.

Why don't you all just order in some Chinese food one day and have a little office party. Everyone just throw in $10 or so.

this is just a team/department thing, and the "company" party is another occasion on the 22?

regardless I wouldn't go. I will pay to spend time with my friends or family but I need to be paid to spend time with my co-workers.
